Galderma enhances its dermatology platform with Alastin Skincare acquisition
30 Nov 2021 --- Dermatology company Galderma is making moves to acquire Alastin Skincare, a specialty aesthetics skincare company. The move comes just before Galderma’s initial public offer, which some media reports have speculated could be valued at around US$22 billion.
Galderma will be supporting Alastin’s product innovation and geographical portfolio expansion. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Since its inception, Alastin has delivered “rapid and consistent” sales growth, achieving a CAGR of 106% between 2016 and 2020, “one of the highest of any professional skincare” as the company states.
Alastin’s patented, differentiated technology and products are noted as “highly synergistic” with Galderma’s premium portfolio.
“The addition of Alastin, with its synergistic portfolio and expertise in science-proven skincare, increases Galderma’s ability to serve the needs of consumers,” says Flemming Ørnskov, CEO of Galderma.
“This transaction will further enhance our premium product offering and provide a tremendous platform for future growth. We look forward to welcoming the Alastin team into Galderma and partnering with them to advance the science of dermatology together.”
TriHex Technology-boosted skincare solutions
Alastin provides a collection of scientifically-proven products for daily skincare regimens and peri-procedural use.
Alastin’s product offerings are backed by its patented TriHex Technology, a proprietary blend of peptides and active botanicals to support rejuvenated skin appearance.
Additionally, in a survey conducted by Corsica Life Sciences in December last year, Alastin Skincare was ranked as the number one preferred skincare brand.
The company was also named one of Forbes’ best start-up employers in the US in 2020 and 2021.
“Galderma will be the next stage of Alastin’s growth story,” says Dianne Goostree, president and CEO at Alastin Skincare.
“We share the same vision of bringing the highest levels of science and innovation to the professional skincare market, and I look forward to working with the team to leverage Galderma’s expertise in this space to drive the Alastin Skincare brand to new heights.”
Alastin and Galderma’s previous moves
Previously, Alastin Skincare unveiled three products: Ultra Calm Cleansing cream, Ultra Light moisturizer with TriHex Technology and SilkSHIELD All-Mineral sunscreen SPF 30 with TriHex technology.
The collection is designed with restorative formulas to help treat naturally sensitive or post-cosmetic treatment skin. The combination of Alastin Skincare’s TriHex technology with other active ingredients soothes, restores and calms sensitive and post-treatment skin.
Among its other recent business developments, Galderma partnered with Cetaphil to renew its commitment to environmental sustainability and social impact through the Clear Skies Initiative. The science-based strategy was rolled out in line with the company’s aims to reduce environmental impact, formulate cleaner ingredients, develop smarter packaging and serve communities.
