Symrise unveils Maison Lautier 1795 brand with new factory in perfume capital Grasse
07 Jul 2022 --- Symrise is introducing its Maison Lautier 1795 fragrance brand along with three product ranges. The company is also constructing a factory in Grasse, France, for the new brand.
According to Symrise, the natural perfumery brand “fuses the craft and métiers of the past with the innovations of the future.” Meanwhile, the new factory will “reinforce” Symrise’s position in the natural raw materials space.
“We are combining the heritage and legacy of Grasse’s Lautier Fils with our technological innovations and Madagascar’s raw abundant nature,” says Ricardo Omori, senior VP of global fine fragrance at Symrise.
“Together, these elements form a new entity: Maison Lautier 1795, a modern brand with roots in the history of scent-making. For us, returning to working with naturals comes with several facets. We find it important to include elements of previous eras because we respect the Lautier legacy.”
“Also, we want to incorporate [environmentally] sustainable practices from planting to the final product,” adds Omori.
Strategically located site
Symrise wants to support regional farmers by sourcing as much raw material inside the Grasse region as possible. Therefore, “Made in France” will play a significant role in the brand identity of the goods.
“We know that the quality of a product begins at its source at the level of the plant and its producer. The environment, social engagement, the sustainability of our supply chains and the optimization of our processes form essential values that our products reflect,” says Camille Quintin, supply chain director at Maison Lautier 1795.
This will strengthen the quality, sustainability and ethical business conduct that have long been a part of the Lautier brand. The new house also exclusively collaborates with companies that share its principles, philosophy and abiding enthusiasm for natural products.
The brands’ initial product lines
The Artisan Range, the Madagascar Range and the Supernature Range will be the three product lines that Maison Lautier 1795 will concentrate on in the initial stages of its operation.
Symrise adds that the skill of the artisans inspired the Artisan Range. Maison Lautier 1795 is sustained by their passion for and expert knowledge of plants and flowers.
The range brings the best of nature with centuries of skill and knowledge. The island from which many of Maison Lautier 1795’s ingredients will be sourced is referred to as the Madagascar Range.
Additionally, the range conveys the region’s sense of boundless fertility and timelessness. Symrise adds that the range includes various scents and perfumes that come together to produce distinctive fragrances.
Symrise adds that this distills Madagascar’s “wild, raw, mysterious and magnificent” nature.
The company sources natural raw materials on the island using its backward integrated value chain, from the plant to the essential oil. All year long, staff members collaborate with smallholder farmers as part of the company’s self-run activities.
Meanwhile, the Supernature range combines elements of nature with technological advancements. The brand also uses upcycling and cold treatment, such as the proprietary SymTrap method of collecting scents from by-products of food production. It also intensifies these naturals.
Environmentally sustainable ingredients
The new brand, based on the principles of the venerable Lautier Fils, combines Grassois savoir-faire with cutting-edge innovation to produce a modern house with a sustainable vision for natural ingredients. As a result, it will be able to create grand cru natural essences sourced responsibly from all corners of the globe.
In recent innovations, Symrise Cosmetic Ingredients and Evoxx Technologies researched and produced enzymes in response to consumer demand for ethical and transparent beauty products. This will increase the company’s expertise with biocatalysis for creating cosmetic ingredients.
The company also unveiled an enhanced artificial intelligence called Philyra 2.0 that provides perfumers with a flexible and ecologically friendly tool for creating fragrances.
