Beyond The Headlines: Symrise’s new €1.5M beauty and home care center, Pierre Fabre’s “largest ever” dermatology study
23 Jun 2023 --- In industry news this week, Symrise Cosmetic Ingredients unveiled a new Beauty & Home Care Centre of Expertise in Clichy, near Paris, France. Pierre Fabre announced its “All” project, the “largest ever” study to gather data on skin qualities, while “accessible luxury” brand Beauty Creations announced its expansion into skin care with the launch of Skin.
Beauty business moves
Symrise Cosmetic Ingredients inaugurated a new Beauty & Home Care Center of Expertise in Clichy, near Paris, France. The fragrance house invested €1.5 million (US$1.6 million) in the facility. The new 300 square meter site houses three new labs, namely a cosmetic application lab for actives and botanical ingredients, Symrise’s first application lab for home care ingredients and its first microbiology laboratory in France that caters to the EMEA region. It will develop products, concepts and testing methods.
GK Hair announced that its shampoos and conditioners are now 100% vegan (Image credit: GK Hair).Epres, a hair care brand with a patented molecular technology that repairs disulfide bonds, announced its expansion into select international markets of Canada, UK, Spain, Ireland, Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The brand’s patented formulas are based on founder Dr. Eric Pressly’s research into the molecular structure of hair and are designed to repair and strengthen hair from within. Its solution is designed to rebond hair structure without reducing the pH of the chemical service. This prevents longer processing times, reduced lift and inhibited color deposit. The formula adds lasting softness, strength and manageability to hair, while its liquid-molecule technology diffuses repair throughout each strand for hours after application.
APR Corp., a global beauty tech company, announced it has attracted a pre-IPO investment of KRW 1 trillion (US$764.8 trillion) from CJ Onstyle. This is the second investment the company has attracted this year following the pre-IPO investment in March, in which NH-Soo Investment Innovative Growth M&A Fund, SJ Partners and Industrial Bank of Korea participated. The company is the innovator behind the Medicube AGE-R beauty device.
New product launches
“Accessible luxury” brand Beauty Creations announced its expansion into skin care with the launch of Beauty Creations Skin. Consisting of a nine-piece Korean skin care system, this collection is formulated to cleanse, hydrate and soothe to reveal glowy skin. Founded in 2016 by beauty entrepreneur turned CEO Esmeralda Hernandez, Beauty Creations line now includes a foundation, concealer, primers, liners, lashes, mascara and lipstick. The brand has reportedly grown to over US$40 million in volume, including an e-comm business, Beauty Creations retail stores in the LA area and partnerships with specialty retailers like Urban Outfitters.
Coverpla teamed up with Unique’e Luxury, a Turkish-American brand, to launch their latest fragrance called Mashumaro マシュマロ (marshmallow in Japanese), packaged in a bottle adorned with a vibrant red internal design. The 100 ml bottle features Bormioli Luigi’s patented Inside décor, a lacquering process of painting inside the bottle. The partnership – which previously saw the launch of Mangonifiscent (released in April 2023) – will continue with upcoming launches, including Zen’gi and Woud & Mood Absolute, scheduled for July and September, respectively.
Brand initiatives and campaigns
Pierre Fabre’s Patient Relations Department announced its “All” project, a study to gather data on skin qualities, deemed the “largest ever” conducted in dermatology. This project, launched at the end of 2022, with help from the company Emma, aims to collect data on all skin types (“All Skins”), all skin diseases (“All Dermatoses”) and all phototypes (“All Colors”) in order to build the largest international private database. Pierre Fabre shares that 50,552 people, from the adult populations of 20 countries – representing more than 50% of the world’s population – on five continents, answered the 65 All project questions.The main themes discussed are related to the prevalence and the impact of medical conditions, but also the behaviors, care pathways and needs of patients affected by one or more dermatoses such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, rosacea and vitiligo.
Patented hair bond rebuilding technology brand Epres announced its expansion into select international markets (Image credit: Epres).Sephora introduced the 2023 Sephora Squad – “a diverse mix of 68 inspiring voices who reflect the diversity and authenticity of Sephora’s broader beauty community.” Sephora Squad is an influencer program catering to beauty fans of “all races, ethnicities, religions, ages, body types, sexual orientations, follower counts and experience levels.” During the yearlong paid partnership, the Sephora Squad benefits from Sephora’s immersive support network including peer and professional coaching, networking events, content collaboration and mentorship. The international expansion will include availability in select market leading salons and brand ecommerce sites across Canada, UK, Spain, Ireland, Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Lash and nail polish brand Kiss Products announced a year-long partnership with Priscilla Ono as its first imPRESS Falsies Makeup Artist Ambassador. Priscilla is known for her work with Hollywood celebrities. As the Makeup Artist Ambassador, Priscilla Ono will be creating content including tutorials, providing tips and tricks, and acting as the spokesperson at key press and influencer events.
GK Hair announced that its shampoos and conditioners are now 100% vegan, crafted using plant-based ingredients that are ethically sourced and free from animal by-products. In addition to their vegan composition, GK Hair shampoos and conditioners are fortified with natural botanical extracts and essential oils that promote healthy hair. These products are designed to revitalize damaged hair, enhance volume and shine, control frizz and protect color-treated strands.
