Cetaphil expands Pro AD Restoraderm skin microbiome-restoring line, targeting eczema relief
07 Sep 2023 --- Cetaphil has expanded its Pro AD Restoraderm line, which targets atopic-prone skin. Next to the launch of the Pro AD Restoraderm Moisturizing Cream, the line’s Pro AD Restoraderm Moisturizing Lotion now has an improved formula made with the AD-Resyl technology, which restores the balance of the skin microbiome. The brand has also added a new size to the lotion in 145 mL packaging.
In total, the sensitive skin dermocosmetics brand has launched five products within the line, which covers targets ranging from cleansing to hydration. The products feature ingredients in their composition that hydrate, soothe and relieve itching caused by very dry skin and irritation.
“Our products are designed to suit all skin types, including the most sensitive, such as atopic skin,” comments Claudia Paz, digital strategy and DTC loyalty manager from Galderma’s (parent company) Dermatological Skincare franchise.
“The expansion of the line and the improvement of the moisturizing lotion formula reinforces our commitment to this journey, guided by the advancement of science, technology and innovation,” she notes.
“In addition to offering even more complete care for those who suffer from dryness and irritation, we will continue to be part of the routine of doctors and patients who trust in the effectiveness of our formulas.”
The launch comes just as Galderma sales climbed to US$2 billion for the first time in the first half of this fiscal year, up 6.9% year-on-year. The Swiss manufacturer saw its growth driven by its Dermatological Skincare and Therapeutic Dermatology categories, while its range of injectable treatments posted double-digit performance.
The filaggrin and ceramides present in the products help to improve hydration and restore the skin barrier. The AD-Resyl technology, present in the line’s lotions, maintains the skin’s microbiome.
“Dryness is mainly responsible for symptoms such as itching and flaking,” explains dermatologist Daniela Pimentel. “Therefore, to be able to prolong the time between allergic attacks, in addition to identifying which triggers trigger skin reactions, it is always recommended to use powerful moisturizers, but which have calming ingredients to contain irritation.
“Filaggrin and ceramides are excellent allies, as they also act in the recovery and strengthening of the skin barrier.”
Relieving dryness and itchiness
The newest member of the line, the Cetaphil Pro AD Restoraderm Moisturizing Cream keeps the skin hydrated for 48 hours after one application. This helps alleviate dryness and itching in sensitive skin, notes the brand. It also “significantly recovers” the skin barrier within 24 hours.
The Cetaphil Pro AD Restoraderm Moisturizing Lotion, which had its formula improved with AD-Resyl technology, is designed to help maintain the skin’s microbiome, relieve itching and provide lasting hydration.
The line also includes liquid soap and moisturizing foam. The Cetaphil Pro AD Restoraderm Liquid Soap is deemed “more suitable for skin with eczema than using just water.” The product, for daily use, helps to alleviate the discomfort of atopic skin and is easy to rinse, leaving the skin soft and smooth, providing a healthy clean feeling, claims Cetaphil.
Meanwhile, Cetaphil Pro AD Fast Control Moisturizing Foam acts quickly to control itching. It was specially formulated for use on sensitive skin in times of exacerbation of dryness and irritation. Furthermore, 98% of users felt that the product was quickly absorbed into the skin, according to the brand.
Pediatric care application
Cetaphil Pro AD Restoraderm products can also be used in pediatric patients.
“Those with atopic-prone skin typically show signs in the first months or years of life. In these cases, topical products are very welcome as cleaning with appropriate products and specific hydration are fundamental pillars in the daily care of these patients,” points out the specialist.
The Pro AD Restoraderm Moisturizing Cream, the Pro AD Restoraderm Moisturizing Lotion (295 mL and 145 mL) and the Pro AD Restoraderm Liquid Soap, which are released for use for children aged three months and above.
In particular, for the Pro AD Restoraderm Moisturizing Lotion, Cetaphil claims that 100% of mothers surveyed reported that the product helped to reduce the sensitivity of their child’s skin with continuous use for 21 days.
Meanwhile, the Moisturizing Foam Pro AD Fast Control can be applied on children aged seven to nine months.
