Does chocolate cause acne? Debunking acne myths with Galderma’s Dermotivin Benzac line
24 May 2022 --- Swiss-based dermatological care specialist Galderma is demystifying beliefs about acne while showcasing its Dermotivin Benzac line as practical solutions to the skin condition. Beliefs such as “acne only affects teenagers,” or “sweat causes acne” are looked at closely.
“Acne still generates many speculations regarding its appearance during adolescence,” notes the company.
“The most different factors – such as hormonal actions, lifestyle, use of certain cosmetics – can influence the appearance of acne. And as much as each skin type has its particularities, and the presence of blackheads and pimples varies a lot from person to person, there are still certain doubts about the subject.”
The Dermotivin Benzac Oil Control is a line of dermo-cosmetics for oily to acne-prone skin.
Allies for very oily to acne-prone skin
The Dermotivin Benzac line is marketed as an “ally” for very oily to acne-prone skin as designed for such specific skin types.
“Dermotivin Benzac Oil Control Liquid Soap leaves the skin clean and mattified, controls oiliness and reduces shine. Its satisfaction rate is high at 96.7% of users reported a decrease in skin oiliness,” shares the company.
Additionally, Dermotivin Benzac Oil Control Mattifying Moisturizer promotes hydration for 24 hours. It helps to reduce and control shine for 12 hours. The moisturizer was also designed to minimize the emergence of allergies.
“100% of users agree that the product does not leave the skin sticky. Its composition provides a matte effect and helps reduce pores’ size,” adds Galderma.
Dermotivin Benzac Anti-Acne Treatment Gel (5% or 10%) is noted to eliminate 94% of the bacteria that cause acne.
Galderma says: “Through its composition based on benzoyl peroxide and glycerin, the gel acts through a triple mechanism: antibacterial action, anti-inflammatory action and comedolytic action, which unclogs pores, reducing the number of blackheads.”
Debunking acne myths
The first misunderstanding is that acne only affects teenagers.
“Many people suffer at this stage due to the hormonal oscillation that occurs at puberty. But, increasingly, adult women (more than men) suffer from this condition,” asserts the company.
“Studies show that acne currently affects 54% of them. Among the causes, the main villains are stress, misuse of cosmetics and hormonal fluctuations or disorders, such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.”
Contrary to popular belief, chocolate and fried foods do not cause acne. “The real villains of the skin and that cause acne are bacteria,” clarifies Galderma.
Thirdly, sweat is not the cause of acne. Instead, bacteria are responsible for acne.
The last belief that people with oily hair are more prone to acne is true, according to the company.
“The scalp is also part of our skin. Therefore, those who have oily strands also tend to have facial skin like this and oiliness is a conducive condition for acne to appear,” clarifies Galderma.
