LastObject launches biodegradable laundry sheets eliminating sulfate and plastic use
10 Jan 2023 --- LastObject is combating pollution caused by unsustainable chemicals used in cleansing products with its latest launch – laundry detergent sheets. Touted as the “only brand to have removed sulfates” from the formula, the plastic-, liquid- and ethoxylates-free sheets are marketed as an alternative to regular laundry detergents developed for sensitive skin.
“The laundry sheets are [environmentally] sustainable because they avoid using non-biodegradable plastics and transporting water,” a LastObject spokesperson tells PersonalCareInsights.
“After more than one year of development, we believe we have achieved the most sustainable and safest laundry detergent available in the market today. After thoroughly screening other available options in the market, we have yet to come across another brand that can make all the same claims.”
The brand shares that the sheets are made with safer ingredients for the environment and clothes.
Free from toxins
LastObject Laundry Detergent Sheets are thin sheets free from all kinds of sulfates, pesticides and other harmful ingredients, while also being biodegradable and vegan.
“Sulfates can be harsh for the skin, especially among people with sensitive skin or with issues such as eczema, causing rashes, itchiness and allergies. Plus, they are toxic to the environment,” the spokesperson elaborates regarding the ingredients of the sheet.
The product is also free of ethoxylated compounds such as PEGs and SLES. “We avoid these ingredients because they might be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, which is used during its production and is a known cancerogenic.”
Additionally, the laundry sheets are free of isothiazolinone and parabens.
“Isothiazolinone is a strong sensitizer, can irritate the skin and cause allergies. It Is also an ecotoxicological hazard. Parabens accumulate in your organism and are cancerogenic,” explains the spokesperson.
“Our choice of ingredients, plus not adding any fragrances or dyes, makes this the best choice for sensitive skin.”
Low emissions
With local warehouses in the US, UK, Canada, Denmark and Hong Kong, LastObject ensures that the delivery has a low impact on the planet. The laundry sheets are thin and come in a slim recycled cardboard package. The absence of plastics and the product’s compact size are deemed to lower carbon dioxide emissions during transport.
“For us, it is not enough that the detergent passes the 70% threshold of the ready biodegradability testing. We must ensure that the detergent will be degraded without leaving harmful substances in the ocean,” states the spokesperson.
They explain that paraffin, an ingredient used in detergents, is made from petroleum and has very low biodegradability. This is why the brand decided to eliminate paraffinum from the product.
“The sheets are also free of phosphates. This creates an imbalance in the water ecosystem as phosphates feed algae that grow exponentially and starve fish of oxygen. This is known as eutrophication.”
Moreover, LastObject’s Laundry Detergent Sheets chose not to use chlorine bleach as it deteriorates fabrics. “We were able to achieve such a high-quality product because we follow several Restricted Substance Lists from international organizations, making sure we keep you and our environment safe,” the spokesperson concludes.
