People Science and Symbiome advance science for ancestral Amazonian skin microbiome products
05 Oct 2022 --- People Science and Symbiome Partner are powering up to study and propel science for microbiome-based products with an initial focus on skin health. The research will track participants using Symbiome’s line of products, using People Science’s proprietary software technology, Consumer Health Learning and Organizing Ecosystem (CHLOE).
CHLOE is modular software technology that combines a high-level clinical research platform with a consumer-facing mobile app. It is touted as the industry’s first platform purpose-built to support virtual studies in consumer-centered alternative medicine.
“We are working with People Science on this ambitious program to transform the scope and scale of clinical research from small, short-term trials to large, ongoing research programs delivering validated, real-world effectiveness data directly to the study participants,” says Larry Weiss, CEO and founder of Symbiome.
“Together, we are building a community deeply engaged in the scientific pursuit of health.”
The first few studies from the partnership are expected to launch early fall in the US.
Synergetic goals
People Science is a direct-to-consumer scientific research company providing a scaled R&D platform for alternative medicines and Symbiome is a microbiome R&D company.
Both companies are hoping consumers will be able to discover, analyze and understand how the microbiome can affect skin and gut health due to their research discoveries.
Symbiome specializes in developing microbiome-related products that are derived from “ancestral microbiomes from the Amazon rainforest” to boost human health.
The collaboration will enable a long-term technology partnership to allow Symbiome to learn from “science-conscious” consumers willing to share their experiences over time.
Actualizing the study
People Science will recruit, enroll and support the study participants and deliver eConsent, eSource and ePRO capabilities through its clinical research platform, CHLOE.
The virtual approach brings convenience to users who can also participate at home and efficiency for researchers.
“This collaboration with Symbiome enables our shared vision of bringing scientific tools directly to people,” comments Belinda Tan, co-founder and co-CEO of People Science.
“People Science provides a clinical research platform that enables rigorous and affordable science within the alternative medicines and consumer health space.”
Interested participants can sign up on the People Science website.
Microbiome in spotlight
In related news, Shiseido Europe acquired all of the outstanding shares of Gallinée, a London-based beauty brand specializing in caring for the skin microbiome from head to toe. The move bolstered Shiseido’s position in the skin beauty category.
Moreover, BioGaia and Skinome partnered to research and develop Skinome Probiotic Concentrate, a product containing live bacteria as a natural solution to support the skin microbiome. The product combines a strain of live Limosilactobacillus reuteri with a limited number of skin-identical ingredients, such as squalene, which improves elasticity.
