Promise of youth: The Roots Brands launches collagen colostrum blend
09 Aug 2022 --- The Roots Brands is unveiling a “one-of-a-kind” blend of hydrolyzed bovine collagen and whole colostrum powder that is available as a youth-enhancing supplement. Dubbed as Give Me Back My Youth (GMBMY), the proprietary blend has been formulated by Dr Christina Rahm with the company.
The collagen and colostrum used in GMBMY have been sourced from cows, owing to their similarity to humans.
Harnessing the ability of bovine collagen to promote the creation of types I and III collagen in humans, GMBMY claims to help in boosting skin hydration, enhancing suppleness and minimizing wrinkles.
GMBMY’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties reduce infections and inflammations in the lungs, stomach and gastrointestinal according to the company.
“The product is made to assist and support the body in wellness, health and overall greatness” says Rahm.

Classified as peptides, collagen is known to provide support and contribute to cellular growth and health, protein and antioxidant synthesis, metabolism, nutrition, skin healing and immune responses.
The other ingredient that makes up GMBMY, bovine colostrum, is rich in vitamins, minerals and macronutrients, providing anti-viral, antifungal and antimicrobial benefits.
The initial milk-like fluid secreted by the mammary glands of humans and other mammals prior to the release of breast milk is known as colostrum.
It has high concentrations of growth factors, lactoferrin and IgG antibodies, which function as a barrier against infection, bacteria and viruses, trigger anti-inflammatory responses, support cellular integrity and regeneration and aid in tissue repair.
Developed with the aim to assist in the regenerative support of the cells and the body, with GMBMY Rahm “strives to reverse the aging process and boost overall immune health.”
Other youth-enhancing offerings
Collagen is also witnessing increased interest from nutraceutical manufacturers and consumers for its joint health-improving properties.
“This could be as a single ingredient, or in combination with either other joint health ingredients or those that support consumers’ broader healthy aging goals,” Lindsey Toth, director of global marketing, Lonza Capsules & Health Ingredients, previously explained to NutritionInsight.
Researchers at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, have also recently uncovered the benefits of upcycling bullfrog skin into clinical-grade collagen to treat chronic wounds and promote skin healing.
The patented technology for repurposing discarded bullfrog skin into skin wound healing products has been exclusively licensed to Cuprina for scale-up and commercial manufacturing through NTU’s innovation and enterprise company, NTUitive.
Collagen peptides produced through natural fermentation of eggshell membrane that increase bioavailability have been used in regenerative agriculture, and superfood brand Ancient Nutrition’s new line of collagen peptides is marketed as delivering results in as little as one day.
“Perfect partner” for supplements
Lycopene, an anti-oxidative compound found in tomato waste, shields cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals.
In a bid to limit MMP-1 secretion, an enzyme responsible for collagen damage, by approximately 50%, researchers from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, discovered that carotenoids – found in tomatoes – can protect dermal fibroblasts (cells in the dermis layer of skin) from oxidative stress.
“It also demonstrates that it’s a perfect partner for collagen in skin health supplements, and anti-aging products in particular,” said Dr. Karin Hermoni, head of science & product at Lycored, which markets its tomato extract under the brand name Lycomato.
Researchers from Hildago, Mexico, studied the extraction of lycopene, an anti-oxidative compound found in tomato waste, employing agitation and high-intensity ultrasound, using three types of vegetable oils – grape, extra virgin olive and peanut, to determine the most effective extraction method.
Lycopene has multiple therapeutic characteristics and functions as a powerful antioxidant, shielding cells from oxidative damage caused by free radicals, which are responsible for aging, cardiovascular disease, and several forms of cancer – therefore, lowering the risk of chronic illnesses.
According to researchers, the human body has an arsenal of antioxidant enzymes that assist in maintaining a healthy equilibrium of reactive oxygen species. Still, as we age, these regulatory systems degrade.
