Shiseido launches booklet to help cancer patients feel beautiful no matter what
08 Feb 2022 --- This World Cancer Day, Shiseido Company released Appearance Care: For your confidence and comfort, a care booklet for cancer patients. It consists of beauty and skincare tips and was created with medical institutions and the non-profit CancerNet Japan to help consumers deal with the physical changes associated with cancer treatments.
Appearance Care contains skincare tips and makeup techniques for all genders to respond to their beauty concerns during cancer treatment.
The tips are accessible and suited to novice makeup users who may not have normally used cosmetics prior to their diagnosis.
Shiseido explains that, because of medical advances like the ability to detect cancer early, the number of cancer patients who hold jobs while undergoing treatment is growing. As a result, patients have
increased contact with others during treatment, creating concern over their physical appearance. This has led to a rise in makeup use in cancer patients. Shiseido says wearing makeup and feeling beautiful can give people with cancer an extra boost in confidence and help preserve their dignity as they combat the illness.
The booklet is available for all to see on Shiseido’s Life Quality Makeup website.
Feeling beautiful during cancer treatment
When undergoing treatment for cancer, patients can experience upsetting side effects such as skin discoloration, skin sensitivity, extreme dry skin and loss of head hair, eyebrows and eyelashes.
While a normal part of treatment, these effects can take a toll on the self-esteem of patients, who often have few resources for tips on how to deal with these changes.
According to a survey conducted by Shiseido in conjunction with CancerNet Japan, 94% of cancer patients report that the changes associated with cancer treatment bother them, and 73% find it difficult to consult others about their problems.
Among men, the most common concern during cancer treatment was hair care, followed by skincare and eyebrows. Haircare was also the most common concern for women, followed closely by eyebrows and complexion.
Shiseido says its “simple and easy-to-understand” resource gives people battling cancer access to the beauty information they demand. Appearance Care’s tips The company has hinted at plans to offer additional tools for people with cancer.
“We will continue to offer easier access to more complete information for use by cancer patients and their families as well as medical professionals,” says Shiseido.
In other cancer care news, researchers at the University of Alberta recently demonstrated the possibilities of 3D bioprinting by using the technology to print nasal cartilage in a mouse study. The research has a host of implications for cancer patients and the cosmetic surgery industry at large.
