Symrise launches protective emollient Hydrolex E for clean label personal care NPD

26 Apr 2021 --- Symrise’s cosmetics division is expanding its lineup of multifunctional ingredients with the launch of Hydrolex E – a pure version of ethylhexylglycerin.

Hydrolex E brings multi-functionality to cosmetic formulations, along with the benefits of being virtually odor-free and helping with product protection, says the company.

Hydrolex E is suitable for a wide range of formulations, including emulsions, wipes and gels, and surfactant-based products such as shampoos and shower gels.

“With Hydrolex E, we offer a quality, multifunctional product, suitable for use in a wide variety of cosmetic formulations. Its liquid state makes it very easy to work with and is virtually odor-free. Moreover, it is perfectly suited for times when manufacturers aim for fragrance-free formulations,” says Dr. Sabrina Behnke, senior global product manager at Symrise.

Minimalist beauty
The product fits growing consumer trends toward clean and minimalist beauty, according to Symrise.

It also forms the perfect addition to the current Symrise lineup of ingredients, including Hydrolite 5 green, SymLite G8 and SymSave H.

Hydrolex E is odor-free and suitable for emulsions, wipes and gels and surfactant-based products such as shampoos and shower gels.Symrise produces Hydrolex E in its own specialized production facility and this enables the manufacture and delivery of a product with “superior quality,” the company supports.

“Customers will appreciate that the single ingredient delivers multiple benefits as a humectant and an emollient, and also provides effective product protection,” adds Behnke.

“Symrise has established itself as the number one supplier of modern product protection ingredients and with Hydrolex E we have added another great product protection solution that works in harmony with our existing portfolio. We know customers will appreciate the superior quality and efficacy of this material.”

Symrise is also collaborating with Probi to “open up new horizons” for cosmetics manufacturers using probiotic ingredients via its processed-probiotic SymReboot L19 – an effective solution for sensitive and dry scalp conditions.

Clean label and COVID-19
Demand for clean label formulations is rising as consumers increasingly turn to simple and natural ingredients. The clean beauty trend is intensifying, from beauty products that cut back on water to those that hold double functions.

Experts from Whole Foods Market’s Trends Council have unveiled the top five clean beauty trends for 2021. The five trends are Beauty Goes Waterless, Multitasking Balms, Juiced-Up Skin Care, Upcycled Beauty and Stressed Skin, and Meet Ramped-Up Remedies.

“The beauty industry has seen significant consumer shifts this year due to COVID-19, and our trends are a true reflection of these changes,” says Amy Jargo, global beauty buyer at Whole Foods Market.
