Vitafoods 2023 live: Monteloeder presents skin rejuvenator botanical blend

10 May 2023 --- Spanish nutraceutical and nutricosmetic division of Suanfarma – Monteloeder – is exhibiting its latest beauty-from-within product at Vitafoods 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland. Live at the show, NutritionInsight speaks to the company about their product named Eternalyoung. 

The dietary supplement is a botanical blend consisting of pomegranate (Punica granatum), sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), desert ginseng (f. Cistanche) and gotu kola (Centella asiatica).

The blend provides anti-aging skin benefits and promotes better moisturization, elasticity and radiance while containing several polyphenols. It has also been shown to preserve the body’s primary skin rejuvenator – telomeres.

“This is our latest product development from the beauty-from-within category. The ingredient has a special design to recognize our skin cells. Also, we have a clinical trial proving its efficacy for skin health and beauty,” Nuria Caturla, chief R&D officer at Monteloeder, tells NutritionInsight at the trade show.

Caturla details the uniqueness of the ingredient on the market and notes that the company focuses on key pathways in skin aging, and explains that the ingredient covers the trend of healthy aging categories growing in the food supplement industry.

The clinical trial
Published in Cosmetics, the 12-week randomized trial included 60 women aged between 35 and 69. All women showed sun-induced and chronological skin aging, such as dark spots and mild to moderate wrinkles.

The Eternalyoung botanical supplement displayed at Vitafoods 2023.Throughout the study period, the participants were given either 225 mg of Eternalyoung or a placebo to ingest daily. 

“The study analyzed several parameters of skin health via various measurement methods. The botanical blend intervention visibly and structurally improved the skin and reduced signs of aging, without side effects,” notes the company.

“Scientific research has demonstrated that botanical phenolic compounds have a wealth of benefits for preserving the appearance and function of aging skin. This inspired us to craft a botanical blend designed to synergistically target the underlying mechanisms of skin aging and enhance beauty-from-within,” says Miguel Poza, Nutra Division director at Monteloeder. 

“The Eternalyoung blend results from extensive research and experimentation on numerous botanical activities for their antioxidant and melanin-inhibition activity, as well as their ability to boost skin cell proliferation.”

“Another goal was to find the right combination of ingredients that could reduce telomere shortening while activating telomerase, an enzyme that helps maintain telomere length and stimulate rejuvenation,” adds Poza.

Down to DNA
Monteloeder further details prior studies on phenolic compounds native to the company’s blend, which have demonstrated benefits on the skin due to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which reduce or modulate cellular pathways throughout aging.

It highlights telomeres – repetitive DNA base units protecting the chromosome during cell division – playing a central role in longevity. 

“The telomeres shorten after each cell division until they reach a certain length where the cells cease to divide and they enter senescence, producing inflammatory cytokines that disrupt the function of the cells and surrounding tissues,” details Monteloeder.

This causes a decline in the skin’s natural self-regenerative potential while reducing collagen and elastin fibers. Furthermore, stress, diet, sun irradiation, environmental pollution and other external factors might speed up telomere contraction.

“The positive effects observed in this study could be due to the capacity of this formula to boost fibroblast proliferation and reduce oxidative stress and glycation,” states Poza.

Future launches 
Caturla tells us that with Monteloeder being a part of the Suanfarma group, it has more resources for research and is doing more clinical trials. 

“We would like to launch two new ingredients next year as well as chronic pain-releasing ingredients. Now we are finishing the clinical trial and we have previous in-vitro studies and also animal studies. By the next exhibition, we are aiming to launch this all-natural ingredient for chronic pain relief.”

The company is developing a new nootropic ingredient which is expected to launch in 2024. “We also work in a special area for women’s health and are advancing our ingredients for this new category,” concludes Caturla.
