An apple a day: Apskin’s phenolics-based NPD boosts cellular renewal and skin elasticity
15 Sep 2021 --- Australian wellness company, Renovatio Bioscience is exploring the potential of apple-sourced phenolics for the skin. Its brand Apskin has released a skincare range featuring antioxidants extracted from apples which has anti-inflammatory benefits and targets the skin’s sub-layers to support intensive cellular renewal and elasticity.
The skincare products, Apskin Ultra Antioxidant Face Cream and Apskin Hand and Body cream, are scientifically developed using patented production methodology. The process involves the extraction and activation of the apple’s antioxidant ingredients.
According to the company, the ingredients are highly bioavailable, with up to 97% absorption by the body.
“The ingredients in the Apskin range are activated phenolics, a combination of phenolic antioxidants extracted and activated from Australian apples,” Vincent Candrawinata, founder and scientific director, Renovatio, tells PersonalCareInsights.
“They are the most potent naturally extracted antioxidants because they are in the form that can easily be absorbed and used by our body.
“Phenolics’ anti-inflammatory properties essentially enable our skin to recognize it as part of our body’s natural wound healing and tissue repair mechanism,” he adds.
Antioxidant properties from apples
Apskin’s skincare products formulation has been developed from research undertaken at the University of Newcastle.
“The methodology involves extracting the phenolics using only water rather than chemical solvents,” explains Candrawinata.
“The technology was developed by mimicking the body’s natural hydrolysis mechanism and enables the manipulation of water molecules to achieve better extraction.”
The Renovatio range of products includes Activated Phenolics powder; Activated Phenolics Tablets; ApskinFace; ApskinBody; Hair, Skin and Nail; Gut and Digestion; Activated Phenolics with Vegan Protein and Activated Phenolics Immunity Plus.
A full-body experience
The body and hand cream has been developed to meet the whole body’s needs, including areas that require intense support, such as elbows, hands and knees.
“As our face skin is different to our body skin, Apskin Hand and Body Cream is designed to be absorbed optimally anywhere on our body without being greasy or sticky, while still providing deep moisturizing power,” says Candrawinata.
“Apskin hand and body cream also contain the Activated Phenolics active ingredients which works well on skin conditions such as nappy rash, eczema and psoriasis.”
The face cream has been developed to meet the more refined cellular needs and its delicate dermal layers.
“Apskin Ultra Antioxidant Face Cream contains hyaluronic acid in the most absorbable form. Typical hyaluronic acid molecules are not very well absorbed by our skin, making them useless. In some people, the non-absorbed hyaluronic acid actually can cause a bad skin reaction, especially if they have sensitive skin,” Candrawinata further details.
“Our hyaluronic acid is different because not only is it suitable for sensitive skin, our technology enables the molecules to be on different layers of the skin ready to be activated as our skin needs it, making it more effective and providing 24-hour protection and hydration.”
Expansion on the horizon
Renovatio secured an expansion deal with Woolworths to expand its range and introduce a new suite of skincare products to the market.
The supermarket conglomerate has been stocking its shelves in around 1,000 stores across Australia, with Renovatio’s new skincare range.
The company launched in Woolworths in April 2020 with their “Activated Phenolics” powder and An Apple A Day ‘Activated Phenolics’ tablets, adding Immunity Plus tablets in May this year.
The new Apskin range further extends the number of Renovatio products stocked on Woolworths shelves across Australia.
Renovatio products are now exported to over ten countries and can also be found on many supermarkets, health food, and pharmacy shelves throughout the country.
