Anomatic and Novelis introduce 100% recycled aluminum alloy for cosmetics packaging
10 Aug 2022 --- Anomatic and Novelis are introducing evercycle Cosmetics, a new alloy certified by SCS Global Services to contain 100% recycled aluminum. The alloy comes as consumer-packaged goods brands face new legislation to enhance and standardize climate-related disclosures, including GHG emissions, product life cycle analysis, and future targets and goals.
The partnership follows the successful development and commercialization of an eco-friendly alloy meeting the stringent criteria for anodizing and the aesthetic expectations for cosmetics and beauty packaging.
“With increasing consumer desire for more [environmentally] sustainable products, Novelis is offering a new packaging solution that is not only made from 100% recycled aluminum but one that can also be easily recycled again,” says Jami Chime, account manager for specialty products at Novelis North America.
Greg Beeman, vice president of supply chain at Anomatic, adds: “Our partnership with Novelis to jointly develop and bring to the market this eco-friendly alloy of 100% recycled content, in a challenging and disruptive metal supply environment, further demonstrates Anomatic's commitment to our customers and their business.”
Driving change
SCS Global Services is a third-party certification company providing independent verification that sustainability claims related to an organization’s products and operations are honest, valid and transparent. Novelis produces its evercycle Cosmetics alloy in Oswego, New York; Kingston, Ontario; and Buckhannon; West Virginia.

Aluminum in the news
In another development, Consumer Convenience Technologies (CCT) developed a software-designed technology branded Eeasy Lid, which the company claims is the first jar lid innovation in over 75 years.
Through a light push on the button in the lid’s center, the containers’ vacuum is released, making it easy to open the jar. This mechanism makes the solution particularly useful for people with disabilities.

Also, Crown Embalagens Metálicas da Amazônia S.A., a subsidiary of Crown Holdings, has partnered with Brazilian beverage producer Socorro Bebidas to extend its line of mineral water to infinitely recyclable beverage cans in Brazil.
Meanwhile, scientists in South Korea demonstrated that harmful endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), including phthalates and bisphenol A found in consumer packaging, may damage the mammalian liver and cause metabolic diseases, particularly in mixture forms.
The Chung-Ang University researchers evaluated the impact of toxic EDCs on liver function and metabolic homeostasis. Humans are constantly exposed to these chemicals through consumer products, including plastics, aluminum cans, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
