“Transformative” biotech for clean perfumery: Aeir unveils Extrait Molecular de Parfum
10 Aug 2022 --- US-based Aeir is introducing its fragrance product Extrait Molecular de Parfum, which minimizes the use and extraction of botanicals while emphasizing the use of bio-engineered formulas and lowering carbon footprint.
The product was designed in California, US, with the company fusing “the codes of luxury” with the next generation of clean technology and circular materials.
Aeir notes that fragrance formulators have depended on the components of nature to create scent through extraction. Therefore, the company is releasing Extrait Molecular de Parfum to shift the global luxury market from its dependency on extraction methods with a new generation of perfumes.
The company’s first creation, the Aeir Mini – Fragrance Discovery Set, debuts in September 2022 with exclusive retail launch partner Neiman Marcus. It is a travel-sized perfume set with Aeir’s first four molecular scents: Wet Stone, Grand Rose, Suede and Virgin Olive.
According to Aeir, the enclosure can be recycled or reused when paired with a refillable aluminum frame created by Italian craftsmen. In October, the 15 ml Aeir Frame Fragrance System will be released in its full size.
Slashing carbon emissions and NFC tech
The refillable aluminum fragrance case combines the areas of biotechnology and high-end craftsmanship through the use of modern coating technologies developed through zero waste production processes. Initially created by NASA, this method significantly cuts carbon emissions while maintaining full recyclability.
Aeir ID, an experience-driven Web-3-ready subscription platform with Apple Wallet integration and “Tap to Collect” functionalities via NFC technology, will be where Aeir’s future products will be made available.
Aeir ID can unlock a range of affordable luxury goods, starting with fragrance and extending beyond beauty into home and wellness.
According to Aeir, the Extrait Molecular de Parfum was formulated over two years and was developed by the design team previously in charge of Tesla’s Sustainability and Biomaterials Strategy, Yeezy’s Innovation and Future Lab Direction and LVMH’s first Web-3 launch with Rimowa.
Conscious perfumery and clean fragrances
As the climate crisis intensifies, industry players have been developing eco-friendly solutions that use traceable ingredients and slash carbon emissions. In this space, Kylie Minogue and Scent Beauty introduced a vegan version of Minogue’s Darling signature fragrance.
The CK Everyone Eau de Parfum from Calvin Klein Fragrances, a division of Coty, received the first Cradle to Cradle gold certification in fragrance. All five critical areas – Material Health, Material Reutilization, Renewable Energy and Carbon Management, Water Stewardship, as well as Social Fairness – were awarded gold rankings.
Meanwhile, Firmenich revealed its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) target of leading conscious perfumery by 2030. To achieve this, the company has set high goals for its categories, including, fragrance biodegradability, renewability, carbon neutrality, responsible sourcing and environmental impact disclosure.
Firmenich established a new factory in France to enhance the production of renewable ingredients. The company also introduced a clean fragrance named “Breathe in” and its ESG report, ranking among the top 1% of the more than 85,000 companies that corporate social responsibility monitor EcoVadis examined.
In other developments, Symrise upgraded its perfumers’ compendium to include symbols that make it simple to identify fragrance ingredients made from renewable raw materials.
