Ashland has announced that Catalite, an affiliate of Azelis Group NV, has been appointed as the distribution partner for its microbial protection solutions in Thailand. The deal will come into effect on April 1.
Catalite will be tasked with representing Ashland’s microbial technology portfolio across the skin, hair, oral, and home care markets.
“Azelis and Catalite’s profound market insight and deeply cultivated clients’ foundation make them the ideal catalyst for our mutual sustainable growth,” says Sung Hong, general manager, personal care and household, Rest of Asia, Ashland.
“This new chapter of cooperation will promote the broader applications of Ashland’s cutting-edge science, fortify supply chain resilience, and empower Thai manufacturers with sustainable innovations that elevate the beauty industry and create endless possibilities.”
Distributed solutions
Under the new agreement, Catalite will transport a range of Ashland’s microbial protection solutions.
Multifunctional ingredients, which are used in solubilizing, hydrating, well-aging, and antimicrobial stability in formulations, are part of the deal. Additionally, eco-conscious solutions, or solutions that are biodegradable, naturally sourced, or are eco-certification compliant, are listed by the partnership.
Progressive preservative and classic preservative segments are another part of the distribution deal. The former — progressive preservatives — are based on aromatic alcohols and organic acids. They maintain widespread major global market approval and possess various formulation applications. While the latter — classic preservatives — are said to offer effective, well-rounded, and synergistic antimicrobial action across a broad spectrum of personal care and household formulations.
The deal also encapsulates deodorizing agents, which are said to combat odor-causing bacteria at minimal concentrations, while maintaining the skin’s natural microbiome and balance.
The final segment included in the deal is microbiological quality management — a comprehensive strategy that ensures the superior quality of cosmetic products while factoring in environmental and economic dynamics.
“By combining Ashland’s expertise in antimicrobial technologies with our deep local market knowledge and formulation capabilities, we can help customers develop safe, effective, and innovative Personal and Home Care products that respond to changing market demands,” says Visava Lertrojanapunya, managing director of Azelis, Thailand.
The move follows Ashland’s recent decision to mitigate rising costs and market volatility associated with the Iran war by adopting flexible pricing strategies in various pain points across its Life Sciences, Intermediates, Personal Care, and Specialty Additives product portfolios.
Ashland cited volatility in energy, raw material pricing, and logistical issues spurred on by the conflict in the South West Asia and North Africa region as the source of its decision. As the war between Iran and Israel, backed by the US, continues to escalate, it is leading to a strain on the availability of raw materials for the personal care sector.
