Beiersdorf partners with Total Energies on solar panels for green energy at Indonesian plant
21 Mar 2022 --- Germany-based multinational Beiersdorf has signed a “long-term” agreement with France-based fossil fuel and renewable energy company TotalEnergies to increase the proportion of green energy at Beiersdorf’s Indonesia plant to 20%. The deal will see TotalEnergies install rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) panels at the facility.
The 540 kWp solar power system will likely be up and running by June 2022.
TotalEnergies’ system will generate an estimated 830MWh of electricity per year and will reduce carbon emissions by around 660 tons annually.
The move will also help increase Beiersdorf’s cost savings with the clean energy produced by the system for 25 years, sans upfront investment.
“We are honored to be trusted by Beiersdorf to deliver cost savings and reduce carbon footprint. We are committed to being a long-term energy partner for Beiersdorf and hope to collaborate further in the future,” says Gavin Adda, head of TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Asia
The move to partner with Total Energies is a part of Care Beyond Skin, Beiersdorf’s environmental sustainability agenda which was initiated in 2020.
The agenda is one of many businesses’ attempts to contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, with environmentally sustainable operations becoming a rising corporate strategy and emerging consumer demand.
Care Beyond Skin centers on spotlighting environmentally friendly technology and reducing Beiersdorf’s carbon footprint. One of the program’s claims is that “100% of all electricity consumed at Beiersdorf of offices and production locations” worldwide originates from renewable sources.
The company aims to purchase 100% green electricity moving forward and has previously installed PV systems at its other production sites and offices, including those installed by TotalEnergies.
Dwi Mudriah, production center director of Beiersdorf Indonesia, affirms, “This project will significantly reduce the carbon footprint in our production facilities, making our facilities environmentally friendly.”
