Collagen reigns in “beauty-from-within” supplement launches with new hybrid formulas
29 Nov 2022 --- Edible beauty supplementation in a convenient format is particularly pronounced for one staple ingredient, collagen. On-the-go formats – such as gels and powders – are particularly adapted to the busy lifestyles of time-starved consumers, while helping address skin health needs.
For some time, the beauty-from-within innovation has been expanding to encompass new outcomes as formulators experiment with new ingredients that offer advanced synergies with collagen. Market research evidences that ingestible skincare remains in high demand as the long-held adage “you are what you eat” rings true still today.
“As the public realizes the power of the collagen supplement, there is no wonder why this market is exploding. However, all collagen supplements are not equal, notes Jay Shafer, Founder & CEO at Zurvita, a manufacturer of novel collagen gels.
PersonalCareInsights explores the latest developments in the space of edible collagen formats.
Ultima Replenisher, maker of sugar free electrolyte hydration powders, has unveiled a collagen and electrolytes powder branded Ultima Beauty. Targeting on-the-go beauty and hydration needs, the product contains electrolytes and trace minerals for optimal hydration, plus grass-fed collagen, vitamin C and zinc to support healthy hair, skin and nails.
The new launch joins Ultima Replenisher’s flagship electrolyte, which includes the flavors of passionfruit, lemonade, blue raspberry and “appletini,” among others. “This is such an exciting launch as it brings us into a completely new category and allows us to provide hydration and beauty benefits to consumers across the country,” says Loretta Reilly, VP of marketing at Ultima Replenisher.
The Ultima Beauty powder is also free of sugar, carbs and artificial sweeteners. It comes in fruity flavors, including strawberry-kiwi and mango-pineapple.
Each serving of Ultima Beauty has 9.5 g of grass-fed collagen (type I and III) that help to increase elasticity of the skin and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles.
Ultima Beauty is also marketed as low calorie, non-GMO, gluten-free and keto-friendly, targeting a variety of consumer lifestyles.
Ultima Beauty adapts to various daily routines and can be easily added into a morning smoothie, enjoyed mixed in with water after a workout, or any time a self-care pick-me-up is needed, suggests the brand.
“Plus, it’s great for on-the-go as each serving comes in a perfectly portioned stickpack that easily tears open and can be added straight to water or any beverage for consumption anytime, anywhere.”
Formulating with antioxidant power
Zurvita has developed a new type of antioxidant collagen gel through its work with physicians, scientists and researchers. The “breakthrough” on-the-go product, branded Zundora, is designed to transform skin to give off a healthy glow when consumed orally.
The proprietary nutrient complex features Verisol hydrolyzed collagen peptides, which the brand claims are clinically proven to improve the health of hair, skin and nails, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and increase skin elasticity.
Zundora also includes “potent” ingredients from multiple superfoods that further help, protect, nourish and smooth skin.
“Every product we create is developed to be a healthy solution for modern families to achieve their goals, deliciously and affordably. This collagen supplement fits those needs whether for beauty benefits or for optimal health and wellness,” notes CEO Shafer.
Aside from Verisol, Zundora’s proprietary blend includes Lumenato, Lycored’s golden tomato extract that has been found to help boost collagen production, while supporting ceramides and protecting them from oxidation.
The supplement also contains resveratrol, hyaluronic acid, stabilized rice bran, pomegranate extract, green tea extract, aloe vera, acai extract and grape seed extract.
Blooming superfoods
With a regular intake of micronutrients known to support vibrant skin, health and wellness brand Bloom has begun producing its clean label, plant-based Greens & Superfoods Powder in travel-friendly Stick Packs.
With the launch of Greens Stick Packs, Bloom offers its blend of more than 30 essential nutrients – including whole fruits and vegetables, fiber, probiotics and more – in a “take-anywhere” greens powder.
Formulated with no artificial flavors or coloring, Bloom Greens contain a formula of clean ingredients that are naturally high in micronutrients and antioxidants like barley grass, wheatgrass and spirulina, which strengthen the body’s natural defense – all while remaining gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free and non-GMO, with no added sugar.
Bloom Greens Sticks are available in the classic flavors – berry, mango and coconut – and are sold in packs of 15. The stick packs also come in a variety pack that includes five sticks of each flavor.
