Evonik and Intercos China’s partnership to green up cosmetic raw material supply
09 Nov 2022 --- Evonik has joined forces with Intercos for a direct supply agreement at the fifth China International Import Expo (CIIE). As part of the agreement, Evonik will supply raw materials such as active ingredients, emulsifiers and cosmetic oils through a direct sales channel to Intercos China. This will benefit local cosmetic companies with improved ingredient offerings.
The business move is touted to unveil a new chapter of cooperation and exchange between the companies. The partnership is also motivated to foster “more efficacious, safer and [environmentally] sustainable products.”

Offering for Chinese brands
Italy-based Intercos is a specialist in original equipment manufacturing and design manufacturer of makeup and skincare products.
The partnership intends to meet the strict standards of Chinese Cosmetic regulations via safety, efficacy and sustainability.
It has also established manufacturing facilities and innovation centers in Shanghai and Suzhou, China.
The company serves international and emerging brands and beauty retailers, offering customized solutions covering research, development and production.
China ramps up regulatory demands
The partnership aims to foster comprehensive exchange and in-depth communication between Evonik and Intercos, to create improved beauty products.
China’s primary 2021 cosmetic regulation is placing pressure on beauty companies for higher quality, better safety and improved efficacy of ingredients.
Additionally, local consumers are becoming more concerned about environmental issues. This also requires industry players to rely on scientifically proven materials with an exceptional sustainability record.
No compromise on performance
Evonik’s Care Solutions, home to cosmetics and personal care solutions, is focusing on developing natural skincare solutions without compromising performance and skin gentleness as part of its business growth.

Intercos will offer raw materials to local Chinese cosmetics brands.
Tracking Evonik
In recent news, Evonik presented its innovations at in-cosmetics Asia, where hair care actives were the most searched category, followed by skincare and makeup, according to the event organizer.
Earlier this year, Evonik and Demetrix partnered to increase the presence of cannabinoids in the personal care market.
Moreover, in light of the energy crisis significantly impacting Europe due to uncertainties regarding Russian gas supplies, Evonik substituted up to 40% of natural gas with liquefied petroleum gas and coal alternatives at its German sites.
“The production in Germany covers a broad portfolio of cosmetic ingredients such as surfactants, emollients, emulsifiers and active ingredients,” a spokesperson at Evonik previously told PersonalCareInsights.
