Givaudan’s skin microbiome-friendly Mangixyl tackles oily skin

07 Apr 2021 --- Givaudan Active Beauty is debuting Mangixyl, a microbiome-friendly ingredient that targets oily skin through sebum regulation. 

The “fully natural” ingredient regulates sebum production (down to 15.9 percent after one month depending on complexion) to relieve the discomfort caused by oily skin – a widespread concern for consumers around the world, the company explains.

“The creation of Mangixyl shows how we combine scientific innovation with trending consumer insights to develop products that are not only good for people but also good for the planet,” says Laurent Bourdeau, head of active beauty for Givaudan.

Created from responsibly sourced mango leaves and designed with inclusive beauty in mind, this sustainable ingredient encapsulates the company’s purpose of “creating for happier, healthier lives with love for nature,” Givaudan says.

Mangixyl regulates sebum production to relieve the discomfort caused by oily skin, which is a concern for consumers globally.The mango leaves are sourced in collaboration with the Association Bendia, based in the village of Koro, Burkina Faso, in Africa.

Run by volunteers, this women-led initiative empowers women to find employment by matching them with suitable job opportunities in the leaf-harvesting process.

After harvesting, the mango leaves undergo a green fractionation process to produce Mangixyl.

Givaudan’s double-blind tests versus placebo studies, encompassing three different skin ethnicities (African, Asian and Caucasian), have also shown a 49.5 percent improvement in sebum quality.

Reflecting the company’s commitment to inclusive beauty, Mangixyl is a universal, genderless ingredient that is suitable for all age groups and skin tones.

A range of botanical actives
Mangixyl joins Givaudan’s growing portfolio of natural botanical actives and is showcased in a marketing concept called S3D Womango.

This lightweight, mattifying day cream for all consumers also contains Bamboosilk A, Curbilene and CristalHyal.

Thanks to its three levels of action, S3D Womango immediately reduces shine, balances the skin’s moisture levels and sebum production all day long and reduces excess sebum over time without over-drying.

Mangixyl is a universal, genderless ingredient that is suitable for all age groups and skin tones.The company is tapping into the potential of nootropics’ cosmetic properties by having unveiled a line of six botanical extracts that benefit the skin. From guarana, ginger, green tea and gotu kola to ginkgo biloba and green coffee, the ingredients are well-known among the industry for their use in food supplements.

Recently the company also launched an active ingredient called Chronoglow, which employs artificial intelligence (AI) to mimic botanical epigenetic mechanisms and promote healthy aging and radiant skin.

Givaudan also released a cosmetic ingredient created from wild bilberries called Omegablue, which boasts “advanced skin repair” properties.

It also unveiled #BeautyBoosters, a collection of botanicals that can promote skin health. In an effort to “capture the essence” of Japanese beauty rituals, the company launched eight botanical extracts, including green tea, aloe vera, and lemon balm.
