Hair health focus: GRW for Hair, Bumble & bumble and Dr.ForHair unveil NPD
27 Aug 2021 --- With the summer season soon coming to an end, focus on hair health is intensifying, to tackle and ameliorate the effects of the sun and sea on hair and scalp. New launches from GRW for Hair, Bumble & bumble and Dr.ForHair address “after-summer scalp health,” as well as nourishment and hydration of different hair types.
Plant-powered hair care
GRW for Hair, a minority-owned beauty brand, announced its pre-launch and partnership with BoxyCharm, a beauty product delivery and e-commerce store.
It is a new inclusive plant-powered hair care brand formulated for all hair types and textures. GRW is a partner of Black Progress Matters, the organization that enables the development of successful Black ownership.
“I struggled with my hair my entire life; I am biracial and have a unique mix of my parents’ hair. I could never find products dynamic enough to work for me. This inspired me to create GRW, a flexible collection of nourishing hair care essentials workable for all different hair types and textures,” says Gabrielle Dovey, creator of GRW for Hair.
The GRW for Hair opening assortment of products includes the Ultra VIP Day and Night Hair Oil, the Everything Hair and Scalp Mask, as well as the Beauty Boost Hair Supplements.
The complete GRW collection is scheduled for an October 2021 launch.
To better understand all hair types, BASF’s Care Creations has launched a personal care evaluation salon in Lagos, Nigeria. The salon will allow in vivo sensory and performance testing of skin and hair formulations on local volunteers.
Oils for hydration
Bumble and bumble’s Ultra Rich collection has new hydrating formulas that deliver up to 72 hours of hydration, high-humidity protection and frizz reduction.
An extension of the best-selling Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil collection, Ultra Rich includes a shampoo, conditioner, and hyaluronic treatment lotion that deliver complete hair nourishment.
Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Ultra Rich is formulated for all hair types and textures, 4C-1A, in a creamy formula infused with skincare-grade biomimetic hyaluronic acid, Kalahari melon seed oil and the Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil six-oil blend.
“Ultra Rich was developed after noticing an unmet need for deep hydration, particularly for consumers with dry, thick and frizzy hair. Formulated with powerful skincare-inspired ingredients, these products combined can provide hydration for days,” says Christine Hall, vice president of hair care and color R&D at the Estée Lauder Companies, the parent company of Bumble and bumble.
The company notes that the shampoo and conditioner are color-safe and free of sulfate cleansers and gently cleanse and nourish, leaving hair soft, shiny and smooth.
The Hyaluronic Treatment Lotion aids in moisture retention of brittle hair, prevents split ends, detangles and protects against breakage, while simultaneously providing heat protection up to 450°F/232° celsius.
Nourishing the scalp first
Dr.ForHair has launched Folligen Original Shampoo, a scalp care product targeted for “after-summer scalp care.”
UV rays and elevated temperatures in the summer heat the scalp, leading to excessive oil secretion. This oil secretion may weaken scalp strength and lead to hair loss.
According to the company, one of the crucial factors for relieving hair loss symptoms is not ingredients but the absorption rate of these ingredients.
Dr. ForHair’s Folligen Original Shampoo contains Folligen Complex, a combination of scalp strengthening ingredients. These are biotin, ceramide, and Serenoa serrulata fruit extract to increase absorption rates for deep scalp penetration in nano-sized, ultrafine liposomes.
The shampoo also helps to improve root volume and scalp elasticity by increasing the strength of the scalp.
Also in the space of targeting the “root cause” of hair health, Nutrafol developed Nutrafol Postpartum, a physician-formulated nutraceutical supplement that targets the root causes of hair thinning in postpartum women.
Scalp care in focus: shampoo replacement?
Sebum and keratin and daily perms, dying, and styling products gradually accumulate on the scalp to create a buildup that mixes with sebum and hardens over time.
If this occurs over a long period, the scalp pores become blocked, causing thin and fragile hair. It can also result in hair loss by hindering the follicle growth at or beneath skin level.
According to the company, it is vital to scale the scalp “just like we scale or exfoliate our skin.” This smooths the surface, removes the buildup of dead skin cells, sebum, and other impurities and promotes blood circulation.
All of this helps the scalp breathe properly and become healthier at a deeper level that shampoo and water cannot reach alone.
Dr. ForHair’s Sea Salt Scaler can be used twice a week instead of shampoo. It contains cleo milk and natural mineral-rich dead sea salt, which gently removes buildup from the scalp.
Additionally, it does not contain ingredients that cause scalp aging, such as sulfate, silicone and parabens.
