LR Health & Beauty celebrates 20 years of its Aloe Vera range
10 Jan 2022 --- Westphalia-based direct sales company LR Health & Beauty Systems marked two decades with its Aloe Vera branded range of products on shelves. The company says that the anniversary will be commemorated with a multi-level campaign, together with an extensive array of activities for LR’s partners and employees.
“Deciding to enter the aloe vera segment was key for the development of our business,” says CEO and spokesperson for LR management, Andreas Friesch.
In 2021, the beauty provider harvested 27.5 million individual aloe vera leaves in the Mexican highlands.
The International Aloe Science Council (IASC), a not-for-profit trade organization, verifies the quality and safety of LR’s Aloe Vera product range. The scientific organization keeps an eye on the industry and meticulously evaluates the quality and sustainability of aloe vera cultivation, processing and product manufacturing.
On shelves since 2002
LR Health & Beauty has sold products containing aloe vera since 2002 and boasts a range of 62 care products and diet supplements, including the ingredient. The first aloe vera product in LR’s line was Aloe Vera Drinking Gel with honey. Currently, LR offers a range of Aloe Vera Drinking Gels in at least five different flavors.
To date, approximately 72 million bottles have been sold.
Between 2017 and 2018, a new Aloe Vera production site was constructed, making a breakthrough in productive capacities for the company. LR built the facility off of an investment of more than €12 million (US$13.5 million).
Aloe vera is not a monolith, LR says. Rather, there are hundreds of species of the plant. “However, we only use Barbadensis Miller, which, unlike the other species, is considered a real all-rounder and is also fit for human consumption,” says Dr. Dominic Jungen, head of quality at LR.
A hydrating and soothing ingredient
Aloe vera is most widely known for its antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Traditionally used to soothe irritated, inflamed, damaged or sunburnt skin, aloe vera has become a popular additive in beverages and cosmetics. Being a humectant, the immune-boosting plant is especially moisturizing and hydrating.
While the primary use for aloe vera is in soothing or nutritional products, the plant also contains aloe latex, which is used to create an over-the-counter laxative, says the IASC.
The plant is relatively easy to grow, generally being able to grow without pesticides, and the IASC says it has few natural predators. This makes the ethical, sustainable cultivation and manufacture of aloe vera products easily feasible for manufacturers.
