Norwex targets underarm microbiome with prebiotic deodorant and body lotion
30 Sep 2021 --- Norwegian personal care brand Norwex has unveiled the two new additions to its Lysere products range, Prebiotic Deodorant and Moisture-Rich Body Lotion.
Norwex banned more than 2,700 potentially harmful ingredients and animal testing from its product development process to ensure ingredient safety and sustainability.
“The Lysere Moisture-Rich Body Lotion is formulated to not only boost a moisture surge but help retain skin moisture for a long time while nourishing the skin. It also has antioxidants to fight environmental stressors,” Christine Lee, US director of product development at Norwex tells PersonalCareInsights.
“The clinically proven formulas work to restore the skin’s protective barrier,” says Patricia Finn, US chief marketing officer at Norwex.
“Suitable for every skin type, the deodorant provides 48 hours of odor protection and the lotion 24 hours of moisturization.”
Prebiotic and antioxidant-infused deodorant
The Lysere Prebiotic Deodorant is formulated with a prebiotic blend of inulin and fructose. These two ingredients promote the growth of good bacteria already present on the skin.
“Inulin is a humectant – it draws water from the environment into the skin, helping to keep it hydrated. In addition, it forms a smooth film on the skin that acts as a skin conditioning agent, leaving the skin soft and smooth,” says Lee.
“Inulin helps to preserve the healthy appearance of the skin by balancing the skin’s microbiota which in turn enhances the natural protective barrier of the skin and maintains its good condition. Overall, a balanced skin microflora will result in improved moisture retention and a fuller, healthier skin.”
“Fructose acts as a natural and gentle exfoliator and helps to restore balance of the skin's natural oils. It also acts as a prebiotic and serves as food for skin’s natural microbiota,” she adds.
Additionally, Lysere Prebiotic Deodorant contains Nordic antioxidants including red algae, bilberry, lingonberry and sea buckthorn that helps fight free radicals to keep the skin healthy and maintain its natural pH balance.
“Sweat is odorless until it mingles with odor-causing bacteria that hang out around dark, warm underarms,” explains Lee.
“But beneficial bacteria, when healthy and thriving, can easily crowd out these odorous types to help neutralize odor, as opposed to pore-clogging chemicals from other products that disrupt the natural sweating process.”
The Lysere Prebiotic Deodorant is certified organic and includes additional ingredients, namely, aloe vera, tea tree leaf oil and cocoa butter. These soften and smooth while helping control underarm odor. According to the company, the product does not contain synthetic fragrances, and it works to fight odors for up to 48 hours.
Hydrating body lotion
The Lysere Moisture-Rich Body Lotion is formulated using a hydrating blend of plant oils, including sea buckthorn oil.
An additional ingredient that protects the skin by helping to neutralize free radicals and guard against irritants is the Nordic antioxidant bearberry leaf extract.
Norwex’s body lotion is designed to strengthen the skin’s natural barrier to help protect it from everyday environmental aggressors. It helps maintain the skin’s natural balance of healthy bacteria while providing 24 hours of moisture.
The lotion is clinically proven to help revive the skin’s appearance and bring it to its optimal state while increasing hydration and restoration.
In the same space, Dermala recently launched OAT So Sweet, a prebiotic and postbiotic formulated daily moisturizer to reduce the appearance of blemishes on the skin.
