Perricone MD pumped about new serum as clean beauty continues to shine
17 Nov 2023 --- The ever-growing global clean beauty market has Perricone MD unveiling a new serum as part of its recently launched Hypoallergenic Clean Correction Collection. The Smoothing Restorative Serum is part of the company’s three-tier plan to soothe, protect and correct sensitive skin types and joins the line’s existing Gentle Cleanser, Barrier Repair Nourishing Moisturizer and Firming & Brightening Eye Cream.
Consumer desire for “green and clean” has personal care and cosmetic suppliers taking note. The multi-billion dollar market continues to grow as more consumers shift toward products and ingredients believed to be safe and non-toxic while aiming to minimize negative impacts on the environment — the latter issue growing in importance with sustainability a key focus.
Data from Innova Market Insights suggests the use of ethical – environment claim in beauty and personal care launches has been increasing globally, featuring a +119% year-over-year growth when comparing 2020/Q4 – 2021/Q3 and 2021/Q4 – 2022/Q3 launches. In 2021/Q4 – 2022/Q3, the top category of global beauty and personal care launches tracked with ethical - environment claim was Skin Care (20%).
All about the ingredients
Ingredient innovation is also key for the clean beauty market and Perricone MD is taking note. It believes the following three ingredients in its new serum will help reduce the look of fine lines, wrinkles, uneven tone and texture:
Bakuchiol is a natural retinol alternative extracted from the leaves and seeds of the babchi plant to visibly help replenish the look of thin, collagen-depleted skin.
Niacinamide, or vitamin B3, is a powerful antioxidant that protects, restores and supports the skin barrier.
Holy basil is a plant-derived extract that soothes and comforts stressed skin to visibly reduce redness and irritation.
“Completing our Hypoallergenic Clean Collection with a targeted treatment was always part of our innovation plan for this year,” says Jennifer Trovel, chief marketing officer at Perricone MD. “We know our customers demand the very best in results and the new Smoothing Restorative Serum is truly where power meets sensitivity.”
Calls for clean beauty regulation
The clean beauty space continues to evolve and that includes calls for regulation to monitor ingredients and clearly define what “clean” actually means since it does not currently have a legal or regulatory definition. Despite that, the trend continues to flourish in the US, Europe and throughout Asia as the global consumer market moves more toward naturalness, transparency and eco-friendliness.
As the clean beauty market expands, so does the suncare product space. To that end, Perricone MD plans to further add to its Hypoallergenic Clean Correction Collection with the addition of a sunscreen for sensitive skin, the Ultra-Lightweight Calming SPF 35 Veil. The Smoothing Restorative Serum is currently available at PerriconeMD’s website and other major retailers.
