P&G explores AI fragrance craft to develop malodor-combating products
04 Oct 2023 --- Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) fragrance development arm has selected Moodify White, an AI-based fragrance design software created by scent tech specialist Moodify, to be applied in product development. P&G will be leveraging Moodify’s capabilities for malodor control based on its digital scent creation expertise.
“This marks a major milestone in the use of AI for malodor control and fragrance design on a large scale,” P&G states.
“By incorporating Moodify’s cutting-edge technology into their processes, P&G is helping further modernize scent design and integration in consumer products,” remarks Moodify’s CEO Eyal Maor.
“Moodify’s technology is at the forefront of the intersection between fragrances and AI,” he adds.
“With the world’s most advanced AI fragrance database and set of algorithms, Moodify is uniquely positioned to revolutionize how malodor control and scents are designed, tested and brought to market.”
Moodify White is based on over 15 years of academic R&D of Moodify AI-based algorithms.
These algorithms easily generate malodor formulas that are said to outperform the best malodor control benchmarks, eliminating the perception of bad smells.
The Moodify White algorithm selects the best combination of odor neutralizers, creating a customized formula that matches the target customer’s malodor requirements.
The final formula has the concentration of components needed to obtain the expected effect, and the material amounts can be updated during the optimization of the composition.
Regulatory limitations and price considerations are also considered to ensure that customers get the most cost-effective and efficient solution.
“This is a significant step in our digital transformation agenda, emphasizing the use of digital tools to improve the use of fragrance in products. We are proud to be integrating the use of AI for accelerated development of delightful fragrances for our consumers to enjoy,” notes Jerry Porter, chief R&D and innovation officer of P&G’s Fabric & Home Care and Flavor & Fragrances divisions.
Moodify White is suitable for a wide range of industries, including home care, personal care, household and industrial product manufacturers. Applications include deodorants, detergents and other cleaning and personal hygiene products.
In other advancements in scent innovation, fragrance and beauty manufacturer Givaudan recently launched ScalpSure, a platform of digital algorithms that enables perfumers to design fragrances that target the root of scalp and hair malodor.
