Solésence receives Cosmopack Award for Magic sunscreen, debuts lip oil and balm
17 Aug 2022 --- Solésence Beauty Science’s Multi-Cultural Magic SPF 50+ has won the Cosmopack Award for Formulation. Alongside the award, the brand is introducing market-ready products Nude Lip Oil SPF 40+ and Protective Lip Balm SPF 30+.
The mineral-based beauty provider shares that the Multi-Cultural Magic SPF 50+ is designed with a clean formulation based on mineral ultra-violet (UV) protection.
“Inclusive suncare, year-round SPF, blue light – the growth of mineral SPF in the clean and prestige beauty segments has highlighted the aesthetic challenges of zinc oxide-based sun care on darker skin tones, and the Black Lives Matter movement accelerated demand for inclusive sun care,” says the brand describing recent beauty trends.
All the three featured products are non-nano, chemical-sunscreen-free, silicone-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free and cruelty-free.
Anti-aging and moisturizing
The sunscreen features Solésence’s Korea patented Kleair, a new generation of high-transparency zinc oxide mineral sunscreen with “enhanced” UV blocking properties. Kleair is a proprietary technology featuring a non-nano UV protection only available in Solésence products.
The extremely high-transparency zinc oxide minimizes early signs of fine lines, blotchiness and uneven skin appearance. The brand shares that an ex-vivo study used cigarette smoke as a model for pollution, finding that Kleair technology reduced pollution-induced free radicals by over 85%.
In addition, the brand’s Bloom-enabled technology reduces up to 77% of blue light with its light-induced free radicals. Also, it says that the plant-based rutin provides a synergistic boost to UV performance and free radical fighting in the skin.
In addition to its sun-blocking properties, Multi-Cultural Magic SPF 50+ also provides moisturization benefits. “One hundred percent of users experienced an immediate reduction in water loss, with 90% maintaining the reduction for 8 hours, demonstrating an improvement in skin’s barrier function,” found an in-vivo clinical study conducted with ten subjects.
Leaving no one behind, the sun care product is created for all skin tones, eliminating the white cast often left on darker skins.
Clean girl trend
The Nude Lip Oil SPF 40+ and Protective Lip Balm SPF 30+ also feature Kleair. The trend behind the lip oil is the result of consumers seeking healthy skin, which includes the lips. Moreover, the movement behind the lip balm is focused on the “clean girl aesthetic” trend of 2021 and 2022 – on natural and healthy-looking skin.
“At the same time, since 2020, we have seen an increase in consumer awareness around the need for SPF, with half of the consumers now expecting skin care routines to protect them from the sun. And an increased focus on sustainability means that multi-benefit is a must-have.” shares the brand.
The lip oil contains aromatic oils, bergamot fruit oil, orange peel oil, calming soothing bisabolol, sustainably produced squalane and ECOCert meadowfoam.
“Protective Lip Balm also contains naturally-derived jojoba oil, which delivers moisturization benefits and contributes to improvement in skin barrier function, and anti-irritant allantoin, which helps soothe the skin,” says Solésence.
Developments in UV filters
In August, researchers identified zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as two popular inorganic UV filters that carry potential risks in a nanosized form.
“Because of their tiny size, capacity to circumvent immunologic defense systems, complex with proteins, and stimulate reactive oxygen species production, nanoparticles in sunscreens provide a potential toxicity risk,” they flag.
Last week, Cosrx launched Vitamin E Vitalizing Sunscreen SPF 50+, a daily sun protector formulated with chemical-based SPF ingredients paired with vitamin E (Tocopherol) to protect all skin types and is safe for coral reefs.
Recent research in Thailand found that Antidesma thwaitesianum fruit extracts may be used as a skincare ingredient to prevent UVB-induced skin damage.
