Symrise releases zinc pyrithione alternative to battle dandruff
29 Sep 2023 --- Symrise has introduced its latest anti-dandruff active, Crinipan PO. The premium-grade, high-purity ingredient offers proven efficacy and an option to replace zinc pyrithione, an EU prohibited substance. Symrise introduces piroctone olamine to its portfolio, which the company touts as a widely recognized and trusted anti-dandruff ingredient.
The active can be used in shampoos or other hair care products to combat dandruff and give the user a flake-free scalp. According to Symrise, piroctone olamine, alongside zinc pyrithione and climbazole, stand as one of the top traditional anti-dandruff actives globally.
“This product complements the comprehensive dandruff control portfolio of Symrise, offering versatility for all customer needs,” states the German supplier.
The chemicals company explains that the most effective approach demands the right combination of actives. In the market of dandruff control, combining different activities is a common practice for efficacy.
Creating dandruff solutions
Symrise calls the world of anti-dandruff products “vast and varied,” where consumers seek “relief from a multitude of options.” From shampoos to conditioner serums to specialized treatments, the market has a plethora of solutions promising to banish dandruff flakes.
People with dandruff can turn to Symrise’s new Crinipan PO.As an alternative to zinc pyrithione, Symrise says Crinipan PO addresses the demand for compliant cosmetic ingredients in Europe. Symrise already has a broad portfolio of anti-dandruff components, providing customers with “reliable, synergistic and effective solutions.”
The solution can be adapted for manufacturers to formulate the products they desire. Manufacturers can incorporate it into shampoos and leave-on hair care applications.
“At Symrise, we have committed ourselves to act as the go-to experts and the first address for dandruff control solutions for our customers. With our complete portfolio of dandruff control ingredients, including China-compliant, green and established ingredients, we want to support our customers as a trusted partner that delivers solutions that bring confidence to consumers worldwide,” says Laura Meunier, global product manager for Skin Protection at Symrise.
Symrise has recently showcased the combination of Crinipan PO and Crinipan PMC green, their nature-derived anti-dandruff active. This proprietary combination is said to amplify the effectiveness of both ingredients, enabling comprehensive solutions for customers.
Last year, Symrise strategically reintroduced SymClariol (decylene glycol) as an antimicrobial emollient that protects the skin and scalp. The company marketed SymClariol as an alternative to the zinc pyrithione.
