Laws and regulations
The Judicial review of UK animal testing laws ended. Cruelty Free International now awaits the ruling of The Honourable Justice Linden, which may take several weeks. The review challenged the Home Office’s decision to abandon the ban on testing cosmetics on animals, which has been in place since 1998. The Judicial Review – which decides the lawfulness of a public body’s actions – was brought for two reasons. Firstly, to confirm that the decision to reverse the cosmetics policy ban is unlawful. Secondly, to establish, with safety testing more generally, that the Home Office must assess the usefulness of the product or ingredient and ‘harm-benefit balance’ when deciding whether to grant a license for animal tests.
