Weekly Roundup: Dior co-creates skin treatment with Hydrafacial, Robertet snaps up Aroma Esencial

Robertet Group acquired Aroma Esencial, a specialist in fractionation and molecular distillation. Moreover, Shiseido won the first and second prizes at the 14th China Cosmetics Academic Research Conference.

Arcade Beauty released its 2023 roadmap to take responsibility for climate action and pursue a decarbonization plan. The roadmap is based on two fundamentals – reducing the waste of samples and cosmetic products and collection and recycling of eco-designed packs. The company aims to reduce its carbon emissions by 3,000 metric tons by the end of this year. It has signed the Science Based Targets initiative 1.5°C commitment. The company plans to manage energy by reduction, conversion and optimization and involve partner suppliers. Arcade Beauty is integrating the 4 Rs in its eco-design strategy – reduce, recycle, renew and reuse. The company is also working on the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification of its factories in order to promote the use of chemically recycled plastics (PE and PP in particular).
Partnerships and acquisitions
Dior Beauty partnered with The Beauty Health Company to develop a custom experience, which will be available exclusively at Dior spas from April 2023. The experience will debut a custom protocol co-created by Hydrafacial and Dior and a co-branded booster, incorporating Dior skincare with Hydrafacial technology. The Beauty Health Company’s flagship brand, Hydrafacial, created the category of hydradermabrasion by using a patented vortex-fusion delivery system to cleanse, extract and hydrate the skin with proprietary solutions and serums. Hydrafacial provides a non-invasive and approachable skincare experience. The Dior collaboration has been developed to capitalize on Hydrafacial’s expertise and reinforce its effectiveness with the Dior Floral Peeling Lotion, which uses a new-generation active ingredient, PHA (polyhydroxy acids) and niacinamide, which are essential for skin texture quality.
The Robertet Group acquired Spain-based Aroma Esencial, which specializes in processing natural products such as vetiver, patchouli, cedar and ylang-ylang, for the aroma industry. Aroma Esencial brings its knowledge, a high-end industrial tool for fractionation and molecular distillation and a range of strategic products for the fine fragrance industry.
In honor of Black History Month, Maui Moisture partnered with PyschoHairapy, a global mental health and hair movement founded by Dr. Afiya Mbilishaka, a psychologist, hair stylist and hair historian. Maui Moisture provided US$100,000 to support PsychoHairapy’s mission of training hairstylists in psychotherapy and mental health first-aid resources. Maui Moisture’s mission is to provide curl confidence to help improve self-perception and esteem – something many women and girls in the textured hair community struggle with.
Living Proof teamed up with P2 Science to bring consumers the latest advancement in proprietary anti-frizz smoothing technology. The partnership was designed to develop an advanced proprietary smoothing technology that reduces hair surface friction and weightlessly shields each strand from humidity, preventing and controlling frizz to leave hair with long-lasting smoothness. The new technology, found in Living Proof’s newly launched No Frizz Smooth Stylers, is a bio-based material with higher humidity resistance, conditioning and smoothing benefits. The new stylers were formulated for fine, medium or thick hair types.
Launches and releases
Baby Magic rolled out a Soothing collection featuring two new products made for baby’s sensitive skin but can also be used by adults – Soothing Hair & Body Wash and Creamy Whipped Butter. The Baby Magic Soothing line helps comfort dry, sensitive skin and contains colloidal oat, shea butter, vanilla, aloe and vitamins B5 and E. The lightly scented formulas feature a soft vanilla and oat scent with delicate notes of sheer jasmine, vanilla musk, coconut cream and sandalwood. Baby Magic’s Moisturizing line is also growing with the addition of Creamy Whipped Butter. Made with shea butter, aloe, calendula oil and vitamins B5 and E, this formula is lightweight with quick absorption, providing deep and long-lasting moisturization.
Batiste expanded its product portfolio with Texturizing Dry Shampoo, Overnight Deep Cleanse Dry Shampoo and Overnight Leave-In Hair Mask. Made with the Batiste signature rice starch formula plus added sea kelp, the new lightweight dry shampoo absorbs oil at the root. Overnight Deep Cleanse Dry Shampoo is a lightweight formula with a soothing fragrance made up of scent notes like orange blossom, jasmine and patchouli. The formula helps detoxify hair, remove impurities and excess oil overnight and contains ingredients like rice starch, charcoal and baking soda. The leave-in hair mask is made with 100% plant-based proteins and naturally derived oils to seal moisture and add hydration to dry, damaged hair.
Triple Paste launched 3X Max Diaper Rash Ointment and Sheer Zinc Diaper Rash Ointment. Triple Paste 3X Max Diaper Rash Ointment contains the maximum efficacy of 40% zinc oxide, three times more than the original Triple Paste Diaper Rash Medicated Ointment, to treat and prevent severe diaper rashes, protect chafed skin and help protect from wetness. Furthermore, the Triple Paste Sheer Zinc Diaper Rash Ointment is formulated with 12.8% zinc oxide, combining the efficacy of a zinc oxide-based diaper rash ointment with the feel of a cream. It is also safe to use as a multi-purpose skin treatment or skin protectant ointment on other body areas, such as on the face as a drool rash treatment, prickly heat rash or dry, itchy skin.
Maybelline New York expanded its best-selling mascara portfolio to launch Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara. It is being unveiled with the help of Maybelline’s first-ever avatar May, who is featured alongside Maybelline global ambassador Gigi Hadid in the upcoming campaign that merges the real and the virtual worlds. With up to 24-hour wear, Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara employs hybrid long and short fiber technology and an extended helix brush with long twisted bristles that work to extend individual lashes for volume and up to 36% visibly longer lashes.

The Fragrance Foundation announced it would honor Nicolas Hieronimus, L’Oréal’s CEO, with its Hall of Fame Award at the 2023 Fragrance Foundation Awards on June 15 at the David H. Koch Theater, Lincoln Center, in New York City, US. The Fragrance Foundation Awards recognizes the fragrance industry’s innovation, creativity and achievement. Hieronimus has been a significant player in the fragrance industry for over a decade – beginning in 2011 as the L’Oréal Luxe Division president. During Hieronimus’s tenure, L’Oréal aimed to invent the future of fragrance. The L’Oréal Groupe has been working toward bringing more sustainability to the world of fragrances through refillability. The company has also been harnessing the power of technology to enhance the fragrance experience for consumers. In 2021, it debuted Yves Saint Laurent Beauté’s Scent-Sation, which used a headset to help consumers search for fragrance by analyzing their emotional response to different scents.
Shiseido won the first and second prizes at the 14th China Cosmetics Academic Research Conference hosted by the China Association of Fragrance Flavour and Cosmetic Industries (CAFFCI) held between February 28 and March 1, 2023, in Taian City, Shandong Province, China. Its first prize-winning research paper, “Biomimetic Skincare System Using Sunlight Energy," revealed a new technology that protects the skin from UV rays, which damage the skin, and converts the UV rays into visible light that has a positive effect on the skin. For the second prize, three of its submitted papers were selected.
