Weekly Roundup: IFF price hikes, Make Up Forever’s new range, hair and skin NPD

Kao Corporation was ranked as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute. Meanwhile, the cosmetics trade show, in-cosmetics Global, showcased its shortlist of nominees for the 2022 lineup.
In April, the PersonalCareInsights team plans to attend the in-cosmetics Global trade show in Paris, France, to speak to industry players on NPD and trends within the cosmetics world.
Awards and accolades
The organizers of in-cosmetics Global released its shortlist for the show’s 2022 awards. The awards spotlight the most cutting-edge personal care ingredient development. Almost 50 potential winners were selected from over 180 submissions.
Carol’s Daughter’s new products help protect users from hair breakage, a trending category.Award categories include Innovation Zone Functional Ingredient, Innovation Zone Active Ingredient and Green Ingredient. Shortlisted ingredients range from Patchoul’up by Givaudan Active Beauty, to SymHair Thermo by Symrise to SPHINOX Defenda by Evonik Operations.
Furthermore, Kao Corporation has been named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by The Ethisphere Institute, a US-based think-tank. The think-tank develops and shares ethical business practices to promote corporate social responsibility. Ethisphere’s list highlights companies that demonstrate high transparency, integrity and regulatory compliance.

The accolade marks Kao as the only Asia-based company to make the list every year since Ethisphere began ranking companies in 2007.
Geopolitics cause price hikes
Flavor and fragrance company IFF announced global price hikes across all four divisions: Nourish, Health & Biosciences, Scent and Pharma Solutions. The hikes were triggered by the rising cost of energy, raw material and logistics costs stemming from recent geopolitical events, notes the company. Price changes will vary by business sector; IFF says these changes will be sure to reflect market realities.
Technology company IRI announced a strategic partnership with Ulta Beauty to improve Ulta’s standing across the total beauty market. As part of the partnership, Ulta Beauty will utilize IRI’s e-commerce and data solutions to better understand shoppers’ online behavior. This will allow the company to better target its consumers for more tailored growth strategies.
Hair and skin NPD
Haircare brand Carol’s Daughter is adding two new formulas to its Goddess Strength Collection: a Repairing Cocoon Mask and a Pre-Poo Treatment. The company, which says “hair breakage” is trending as one of the top beauty searchers, has infused its line with castor oil and other natural ingredients to help users maintain their hair’s natural texture and strength.
The entire Goddess Strength line is vegan and sulfate-free.
Make Up Forever unveiled its HD Skin foundation collection. The formula promises to perfect users’ skin without appearing cakey. The long-lasting foundation is waterproof, sweatproof and smudge-proof. Secret’s new range offers antiperspirant and aluminum free options.
Containing a “micro-skin system,” the foundation is promoted as being able to follow skin movements all day without migrating or creasing, offering users a luminous, semi-matte finish. Make Up Forever’s range comes in 40 shades spanning the color chart to provide customers with a personalized skin finish.
Peace Out Skincare released its Peace Out Dark Spots Serum to combat hyperpigmentation and melasma. Peace Out’s daily serum promises to help post-breakout pigmentation, sun spots, age spots and pollution damage. The alcohol-free formula contains a blend of 10% AHAs to deliver a brighter complexion for users.
Body care
Secret is launching a collection of six aerosol deodorants which offer long-lasting protection. Secret’s Weightless Dry Spray range has antiperspirant and aluminum-free choices for users and is available at major retailers across the US.
The range’s dry-feel antiperspirant is reportedly fast-acting, dries instantly, and protects against sweat and odor for up to 48-hours. Secret’s aluminum-free option is made with “freshness-on-demand” technology and offers 24-hour odor protection.
The bottles are designed with an ergonomic grip and dispense just enough product to ensure proper application without wastage.
