In-cosmetics Global 2026: Lignopure highlights circular lignin ingredient

29 Apr 2026 | Lignopure

We spoke with Yuan Gao, technical sales specialist at Lignopure, about LignoBase, the company’s lignin-derived ingredient. Featured in the Sustainability Zone, LignoBase offers a multifunctional solution that elevates product formulations with its naturally derived combination of SPF-boosting, antioxidant protection, and oil control. Yuan dove into the science behind LignoBase, revealing how it enhances skin care with natural color and soft-focus effects while supporting eco-friendly, streamlined formulation processes.

This is Ella Ja Donal for Personal Care Insights at In Cosmetics Global 2026 joined by Yuan Gao, technical sales specialist at Lignopure.

Ya.

So jumping straight into it, what are the key functionalities of your lignob-base ingredients that you're showcasing here, and how can formulators leverage its?

Functionality.

Yes, thank you.

So lignal base is natural ingredients and multifunctional ingredients upcycled from lignin, and it brings four key benefits to the formulations.

So first of all, it acts as an SPF booster.

The 1% lal base can already boost 10 to 12 SPF points.

So it allows the form.

To achieve a higher SPF level with a lower UV filter dosage.

Secondly, it provides strong oxidant activities so it can help us to protect our skin and the formulations from oxidative stress.

Thirdly, it offers also oil absorption properties, contributing to the control and the matter finish.

Finally, As it's a natural powder, it also provides softer focus effect and the the natural color.

Which is especially beneficial in color cosmetic applications.

So overall, formulators can replace or reduce multiple synthetic and the single functional ingredients with one natural and multifunctional ingredient.

OK, fantastic, thank you.

And how are you positioning lignob base within current sustainability and circularity trends, especially as an upcycled alternative to synthetic or fossil-based inputs?

Yes, the lignob base is strongly aligned with the current sustainability and circularity trend because it is derived from lignin, which is a naturally abundant 5 products from the paper and pulp industry.

Instead of being burned into low value energy, this material is upcycled by us into high performance cosmetic ingredients.

So this allows us to provide alternatives to synthetic and harmful ingredients while also supporting a more circular value chain.

So for brands, this means this is not only about performance, but also about.

Telling a credible sustainability story backed by a real industrial transformation.

OK, thank you.

And my next question is, if you could share some insights into any technical support or formulation guidance you provide to help R&D teams integrate lignin-based ingredients into existing skincare, suncare, haircare, and color cosmetic products.

Yes, we understand that working with lignin-based.

Be new for many formulators, so we provide strong technical support to facilitate the integration.

This includes like formulation guidelines, prototype formulations across sun care, skincare, hair care, and color cosmetics, as as recommendations on dispersions and compatibility.

We also work very closely with our customers to adapt our original base into their specific system.

Whether it's optimizing the SPF performance or managing the color effect, so lignol based is not only an ingredient, it's a supported solution for your R&D team.

OK, and for my last question, what are some emerging market trends or unmet formulation challenges that you see where lignin derived ingredients like lignobase can offer clear performance or.

Sustainability advantages over traditional actives or boosters.

Thank you for your questions.

We see several trends where originalal base can bring values.

So in some care, like I mentioned before, many formulators want to achieve higher SPF value while with less UV filter dosages.

So this is exactly wherelialba SPF boosting effect is relevant.

At the same time, brands keep looking for.

Natural and sustainable alternatives for synthetic boosters and antioxidants.

Another very important trend is the growing demand of tinted or color cosmetics, which also delivers high STF values.

With its natural color and SPF boosting functionalities, signal base is particularly positioned to support this kind of formulations.

So we address the challenges by combining the performance, sustainability, multifunctionality, and natural origin in one single solution.

Thank you.
