In-cosmetics Global 2024: Inside Lallemand’s Evolva acquisition and biotech innovation

Marcia da Silva Pinto, senior technical & product manager at Evolva, Lallemand Group, talks to Personal Care Insights about the synergies taking place at Lallemand since the acquisition of Evolva late last year. We also discuss promising innovations in biotech with three key ingredients from the newly combined portfolio.

Big news for Evolva.

Let's start first with the acquisition by Lal.

Yeah, so that was very.

Nice for us at the end of December last year when Lalemo acquired Evolva.

So Evolva is a Swiss biotech company based in Basel in the biotech hub of Switzerland.

So this is a very strategic place, and Lalemo with years and years of experience in the microorganisms and baker's yeast, so that was a very nice complement of.

Portfolios and companies that means Marcia, we can look forward to some exciting innovations for sure, yes, because there are lots of synergies, lots of activities that will happen on both sides, especially because Evolva also uses biotech and baker's yeast for the production of the ingredients.

So this is very, very exciting, very interesting.

Let's Talk a little bit about some of your ingredients.

I believe there's 3 you'd like to discuss.

Yes, yes, yes.

So I think in cosmetics it's the first time that we showcase the combined portfolio of Evolva and Lalemo, and these 3 ingredients are very exciting because they touch customer trends, the prebiotics, postbiotics.

Anti-aging, auto, so it's very innovative what we bring as , because beyond the production we also bring science which is very, very important for the customers.

So the efficacy studies.

The customers are increasingly more educated, right?

Yes, and there is, let's say a pressure for the supply.

Buyers and the producers, but also for the customers, you know, because when they go to their consumers, they need to have a product that has a science base, and this is what we try to do also with the ingredients from the beginning that we add science to back up the claims or the communication around them.
