Art of aesthetics: K-beauty draws focus on “skin quality,” while cosmetic gynecology gathers pace
Medical aesthetics and personal care converge, driven by global interest in skin care and intimate wellness.
Key takeaways
- South Korea is showing to be a hotspot for cosmetic tourism as global consumers shift their focus from traditional volume enhancement to skin quality.
- Today’s beauty trends are moving toward improving the texture and structure of skin.
- The convergence of medical aesthetics and personal care is now shifting to women’s wellness, with clinics like Ziba Med Spa expanding into cosmetic gynecology.

A growing number of international beauty consumers are exploring South Korea’s aesthetic clinics, driven by an emerging global focus on “skin quality” and novel skin care technologies such as liquid Polycaprolactone (PCL). In other recent developments, Ziba Med Spa is expanding its women’s wellness reach for cosmetic gynecology.
The lines between aesthetics and personal care are increasingly blurring as consumers embrace holistic approaches to beauty that prioritize results and experience. What were once strictly clinical treatments — such as cosmetic recovery systems and targeted skin texture interventions — are now informing everyday product development in personal care, driving innovation in texture‑enhancing actives, recovery‑focused formulations, and skin‑optimizing technologies.
At the same time, aesthetic brands are borrowing language and sensorial cues from personal care markets to make clinical services feel more accessible and lifestyle‑aligned. This convergence is evident across multiple fronts.
Some recent examples include post‑procedure recovery products that bridge medical efficacy with sensorial performance, aesthetic trends showcased at major industry events, and the expansion of mask‑treatment offerings that promise clinical‑level outcomes with at‑home ease.
PCL applications
Developed by South Korean biotech company Dexlevo, liquid PCL products like Gouri are rising among medical tourists seeking advanced skin care options.

This shift in consumer preference is visible across global social media platforms. International fashion models and influencers have frequently documented their visits to South Korean dermatology clinics, sharing their experiences with treatments aimed at achieving a clear, radiant complexion — often referred to as the “Glow Skin” trend.
The online visibility has served as a catalyst, contributing to an increase in cosmetic medical tourism to the region.
Joohwan Choi, marketing director at Dexlevo, says: “We’re observing a distinct shift in international consumer priorities toward overall skin quality rather than just volume. The growing interest in our liquid PCL technology aligns closely with this broader aesthetic trend, as international clients increasingly seek out innovative approaches to skin texture.”
Women’s wellness expansion
In a separate development, Ziba Med Spa has announced an expansion of women’s wellness services in Tarzana, California, US. The move comes to light as the industry sees a rise in demand for the convergence of medical aesthetics and personal care.
The women’s care category continues to expand beyond traditional intimate care offerings such as intimate wash and sanitary products. Innova Market Insights data indicates a 5% global increase in women’s care product launches from July 2022 to June 2024, with Asia leading the launches.
The Ziba Med Spa move, in collaboration with La Vie Medical Center, is positioned to add an expanded scope of cosmetic gynecology and intimate wellness care, led by Dr. Michael Eshaghian, a board-certified physician who focuses on cosmetic gynecology, intimate wellness, and regenerative treatments.

The clinics state that the expansion is intended to meet growing patient interest in medically guided, consultation-based options for intimate wellness concerns that may arise across different life stages, including postpartum changes, hormonal transitions, and age-related concerns.
They add that the category has increasingly centered on structured medical evaluation, patient education, and individualized care planning.
“Our approach is centered on patient education, privacy, and medically guided care,” says Eshaghian. “Every patient begins with a personalized consultation so we can review concerns, discuss appropriate options, and determine a plan based on medical suitability and individual goals.”
Meanwhile, Dima Hamzeh, director of operations, marketing, and strategy at Ziba Med Spa, explains: “Many women live with concerns they have not felt comfortable discussing. This expansion is designed to make consultation-based care more accessible in a respectful environment where patients can ask questions, understand options, and make informed decisions with appropriate medical guidance.”
Depending on an individual’s needs and medical history, consultations may include discussion of concerns such as vaginal dryness, discomfort, tissue changes, or structural concerns. The clinics note that any recommended approach is determined through clinical assessment and medical suitability.
