Beauty from biology: Byosom unveils DNA-personalized skin care
Key takeaways
- Byosom leverages its proprietary Genyq technology to create skin care tailored to an individual’s unique genetic makeup.
- Customers can start with a DNA-based analysis, a full serum and cream regimen, or a subscription model for ongoing personalization.
- The brand emphasizes consent, encryption, de-identification, and regulatory-standard lab practices to protect genetic information.

Byosom has rolled out skin care that can be built from each customer’s DNA. According to the biotechnology-driven skin care brand, the launch is part of its evolution of moving beyond skin-type assessments to create personalized skin care supporting how each person’s skin functions, ages, and responds to environmental factors.
Positioned at the intersection of biotechnology and skin care innovation, the brand’s proprietary Genyq technology analyzes specific genetic variants (SNPs) associated with skin health to formulate customized skin care.
Rather than relying on questionnaires or temporary skin concerns, Byosom uses each customer’s genetic blueprint to deliver biological insights and formulations tailored to their unique skin profile.
“Byosom started with one observation: two people can use exactly the same products and achieve completely different results,” says Byosom founder Tomas Smagarys.
“That inspired us to ask why skin care remains generic when every person’s biology is unique. After years of bringing together experts across genetics, biotechnology, and formulation science, we’re proud to introduce a platform that delivers skin care designed specifically for them.”
Focusing on genetics
Byosom has launched with three personalized ways for consumers to begin their journey.
T
The Full Experience package includes a Biological Skin Analysis and a custom face serum (1 fl oz) and face cream (1.7 fl oz), formulated for the customer’s unique genetic profile.he first is Biological Skin Analysis (US$249), a DNA-based analysis using an at-home cheek swab with sequencing performed by a certified US genetics laboratory and Genyq analysis by Byosom. Customers receive a personalized Biological Skin Report with genetic skin insights, scores, and recommendations.
Customers can also choose the Full Experience (US$599). This includes the Biological Skin Analysis and a custom face serum (1 fl oz) and face cream (1.7 fl oz), formulated for the customer’s unique genetic profile.
Lastly, Byosom+ (US$399/month) is a flexible membership that provides ongoing deliveries of personalized skin care while optimizing each customer’s regimen over time.
After selecting their journey, users receive their DNA-based skin analysis and, if applicable, custom skin care within 30 days.
According to Byosom, its at-home DNA screening process places data privacy and consumer confidentiality at the forefront. Customers retain full ownership of their genetic information and must provide consent before any analysis, while samples are de-identified and only the skin-relevant results are accessed by Byosom.
Industry-standard encryption and strict access controls protect the data, and samples are destroyed within 180 days. All analyses adhere to accredited laboratory standards, ensuring regulatory compliance and secure handling from start to finish.
“Our vision extends beyond personalized skin care,” says Smagarys. “We want to help people better understand the biology behind their skin and empower them to make more informed decisions about their routines. This is just the beginning of what precision beauty can become.”
Personalized skin care ramps up
In the past few years, there has been a string of moves in the personalized skin care space. For example, in August 2025, Revieve released an AI-powered tool called Skin Age Diagnostics to identify a user’s skin age and deliver data-driven skin care recommendations. At the time, RoC Skincare was the first brand to implement the feature into its digital experience to refine its consumer personalization strategy.
Other examples include LaFlore Live Probiotic Skin Care and its launch of a skin health testing kit that evaluates the skin microbiome for personalized skin care recommendations. Meanwhile, L’Oréal Groupe unveiled a device that provides personalized skin analysis in five minutes. The Cell BioPrint uses L’Oréal’s Longevity Integrative Scienceä, which shows how mechanisms in the human body can affect skin appearance.
