CBD Move Free and Novi rolls out “industry first” petroleum-free CBD balm
06 Jul 2022 --- CBD Move Free has partnered with carbon-neutral and ingredient provider, Novvi to create a line of cannabidiol (CBD) relief products. The line will apply Novvi’s plant-based oils and moisturizing emollients Luxtra.
The deal will harness Novi’s “breakthrough” plant-derived petroleum alternative materials for topical balms with a roll-on design aimed at offering targeted relief for sore muscles and inflammation. The item is described as plant-based, paraffin-free, silicone-free and cruelty-free formulation.
“CBD Move Free is our partner in the CBD space and we collaborated with them to create a line of products that is the first of its kind in the industry,” saysJeremy Austin, SVP of product strategy and market development at Novvi.
Naturally derived synthetic emollient?
CBD Move Free is currently producing a new personal care product containing CBD, cannabigerol (CBG) and Novvi’s Luxtra emollient. It is described to offer grease-free textures. Luxtra is also non-comedogenic, biodegradable and designed with 100% renewable carbon, notes the company.
Luxtra is derived from plant oils with a Naturally Derived Index of >99.7%, says Novvi. It is suitable for skin, sun, body care, hair, makeup and cleanser applications. For formulations, it is most soluble in plant oils, mineral oils and cosmetic solvents and insoluble in water.
Novvi shares that the emollient comes in three forms – light, pure and rich – ranging from a light, dry and high slip feel to an unctuous oil without a greasy feel.
Luxtra is naturally derived and synthetic as it originates from plant oils. Despite not adding anything else to the derivative and since the end products are not found in nature, it is naturally derived and synthetic, explains the company.
Further collaborations
CBD Move Free notes that oils structurally similar to Luxtra have been clinically shown to be the most effective media to topically deliver and enhance the therapeutic effect of CBD.
“It was a natural fit to partner with Novvi, who is at the forefront of enabling the development of high-performance personal care products that utilize the most [environmentally] sustainable ingredients available,” comments Roeser.
“CBD Move Free can deliver science-backed products that can simultaneously leverage novel ingredients, promote sustainability and provide the relief they need, in collaboration with Novvi,” adds Austin.
Furthermore, CBD Move Free hints at expanding into sexual wellness later in the year, in collaboration with Dr. Pepper Schwartz.
Booming CBD space
In April, a multi-year supply agreement was reached between specialty chemicals company Evonik and biotech player Demetrix to expand the role of cannabinoid bioactives in beauty and personal care products.
Additionally, Sunshine Botanicals unveiled its Extreme Hydration Soothing Skin Butter to alleviate dry, inflamed and damaged skin conditions. The skin butter combines botanical extracts and full-spectrum CBD. Cannabis and CBD extract positively impact aging skin, especially when mixed with synergistic herbs.
Earlier this year, UK CBD supplier EthicaCBD rolled out CBD Sports Gel, positioned as a fast-acting topical solution for athletic recovery. The formula harnesses a blend of plant extracts, including CBG, to provide natural relief to injured joints and tired muscles.
Further news in the CBD reported the acquisition of Sierra Sage Herbs by Cannabis company Creso Pharma.
