Evonik links up with Chinese biotech beauty innovator to expand cosmetics business
06 Jul 2023 --- German specialty chemicals supplier Evonik and Guangdong Marubi Biotechnology (“Marubi”) have inked a new cooperation agreement in Shanghai, China. The partnership will enable consumers in the local cosmetics industry to “benefit from both companies’ complementary capabilities in raw materials, R&D and production.”
Guangdong Marubi Biotechnology is a beauty product manufacturing company that creates skin care products and engages in eye care and biological anti-aging research. It manufactures various skin care and beauty products, such as water creams, clean creams, masks and eye creams.
The two organizations will exchange information on diverse topics including ingredient application and development, formulation and studies on cosmetic market trends.

“Evonik and Marubi will jointly promote the development and continuous upgrade of China’s beauty industry,” states the partnership.
“Working closely with customers who share a similar vision is important for us, especially in China, where the cosmetics market is booming,” saysYann d’Hervé, head of the business line Care Solutions at Evonik. “We look forward to joining hands with Marubi to create more high-performing and sustainable products and unique experiences for consumers.”
Building on two decades of collaboration
Evonik and Marubi have been working together for nearly two decades. To date, more than twenty products from Evonik, including a sustainable portfolio produced from natural sources and green chemistry processes, are featured in a variety of Marubi’s products and bestsellers.
The two companies share that they maintain close communication to anticipate the latest market trends and concepts.
“We are delighted and honored to enter into this strategic cooperation with Evonik,” comments Dr. Chaowan Guo, Marubi’s vice general manager of R&D.
“We are convinced that the deeper exchange on raw materials, formulations and market trends will lead to mutual benefits, supporting our commitment to the high-quality development of the industry, as well as our goals towards a broader international expansion.”
Evonik Care Solutions plays a “critical role” in Evonik’s life sciences division, Nutrition & Care, to System Solutions. The division aims to increase its share of System Solutions from 20% today to more than 50% by 2030.
Evonik’s business moves
The latest announcement comes shortly after Evonik’s acquisition of Argentinian biotechnology cosmetic actives innovator Novachem, earlier this week. The move was described as the “next logical step for the Care Solutions business line” as it aims to be the sustainable specialties partner for the personal care industry.
In other business activities, Evonik linked up with pioneering biotech specialist Modern Meadow to create a host of clean beauty products, including those based on animal-free collagen made using Modern Meadow’s precision fermentation technology Bio-Coll@gen.
Addressing high levels of micropollutants in the environment, Evonik joined Intrapore in March to expand the reach of remediation technologies, which are designed to remove traces of toxic PFAS in soil and groundwater.
