Full transparency in perfume ingredients: Skylar unveils allergen-free collection
02 Sep 2021 --- US-based perfume brand Skylar is disclosing all of the ingredients that go into their perfume NPD to boost transparency and tap into clean beauty trends. Sara Miranda, brand marketing director at Skylar speaks to PersonalCareInsights about the company’s new launch of eau de parfums which feature allergen-free formulations and custom sustainable packaging.
“In the US, it is not required for brands to disclose all of their ingredients in fragrance. At Skylar, we disclose every ingredient and scent note used in our products,” Miranda highlights.
“Not only is this helpful for the consumer who is careful about the ingredients and products that they use, but it also is a very valuable way to build trust with our consumer.”
The brand has launched two new signature scents, Pink Canyon and Fall Cashmere. The company’s 100 percent transparency in ingredients policy has spurred products in the clean fragrance space which are touted as hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, and 100 percent vegan.
Rigorous allergen testing
Skylar’s products are free of toxic chemicals and made with sustainable ingredients, according to the company.
The brand’s products went through testing to ensure that they are safe for sensitive skin and do not trigger allergies.
“Clean beauty means that the quality and safety of the ingredients and sustainability of materials we use to make our products are met with a specific standard.”
“Skylar has developed a rigorous ingredient policy with industry experts and toxicologists to ensure that our fragrances are hypoallergenic and safe for those with sensitive skin,” explains Miranda.
All products are made without parabens, phthalates, 36 common allergen culprits, hormone disruptors, among many other harmful ingredients that can be found in fragrances.
“Our ingredient policy is the foundation of our product development process and is followed throughout every stage of the formulation.”
The need for ingredient traceability within personal care products was recently spotlighted by industry experts from Evolva and Personal Care Cargill Beauty.
Longer lasting fragrance
The brand has recently increased its fragrance concentrations to include levels between 17 percent and 20 percent.
The eau de parfums now offer a longer-lasting scent. According to the company, this is an advancement as potency and longevity are two of the most common concerns when it comes to clean perfume.
“All Skylar fragrances are now formulated as ‘eau de parfums’. These fragrances carry a larger fragrance load than eau de toilettes, which can translate to longer-lasting fragrances.”
“With this change in scent formula, the new fragrance loads still adhere to global regulatory clean fragrance standards,” adds Miranda.
Recyclable bottle, cap and carton
The entire product range has just undergone a total aesthetic transformation, with custom elevated packaging that pays homage to the brand’s West Coast roots and light, airy persona.
Skylar's new design features a new elliptical logo inspired by clouds floating in the sky, cloud-shaped, hand-blown glass bottles, and a 100 percent recyclable bottle, cap and carton.
“We worked to source materials and created a custom bottle that could be recycled. All Skylar fragrance bottles and caps can be recycled, and our box packaging is made with FSC certified materials that can also be recycled after use,” Miranda notes.
“Creating products with recyclable elements is only the beginning in our endeavor to raise the standards of sustainability and consciousness within the fragrance space.”
Also tapping into the recyclable beauty space is Mono Skincare which recently launched skincare tablets in reusable glass bottles for single-use savings.
