Haut.AI and Neutrogena refresh AI-driven skin analysis tool for science-backed inclusivity

Haut.AI has partnered with Neutrogena to refresh the brand’s Skin360 platform with an upgraded AI engine to deliver more precise skin analysis and personalized product recommendations. 

The updated experience evaluates eight skin indicators: hydration, smoothness, even tone, radiance, firmness, dark spots, wrinkles, and clarity.

Based on a selfie and short questionnaire, users receive an overall score of 1–10 and suggested morning and evening routines built from Neutrogena’s product portfolio. 

The results page has also been redesigned for easier use. It now shows key ingredients highlighted for different skin concerns, a clearer overall skin score, and a “must-have” product marked as the top recommendation for users’ main skin issue.

“The integration of AI skin analysis into consumer experiences becomes a valuable source of first-party data, giving brands a deeper understanding of their consumers on a skin-health level. With this knowledge, brands can identify gaps in their product portfolio, guide product innovation, refine marketing strategies, and ultimately deliver more personalized experiences,” Anastasia Georgievskaya, CEO and co-founder of Haut.AI, tells Personal Care Insights.

Scientific precision for inclusivity

Haut.AI underlines that the refresh is built on dermatological expertise and diverse AI training data. According to Georgievskaya, the company’s algorithms are trained on over 3 million images from around 800,000 individuals worldwide.

The new analysis engine claims to improve algorithmic accuracy. It expands results so that users can see product suggestions for all skin concerns, not just the one they initially chose, without needing to restart the survey.

“The upgraded analysis engine in Neutrogena Skin360 is powered by Haut.AI’s proprietary skin assessment algorithms, trained on a uniquely diverse dataset of millions of images,” she adds. 

Haut.AI’s algorithms are trained on over 3 million images from around 800,000 individuals worldwide.The dataset spans a wide range of skin tones, ages, genders, and dermatological conditions, helping to ensure inclusivity across populations.

“This breadth enables the system to detect subtle differences in skin concerns with much greater precision,” Georgievskaya explains.

She adds that the data is annotated by biomedical and dermatology experts, “providing the clinical ground truth for training and validation.” By relying on expert input, the AI is guided by medically accurate information rather than images alone.

Georgievskaya adds that the models are tested against established dermatology standards to ensure the results are consistent with professional benchmarks. Haut.AI also creates additional examples of rare or underrepresented skin types using controlled generative AI methods to improve inclusivity further.

The updated Skin360 is accessible via Neutrogena’s brand websites and its retail partners in the US and Canada.

Streamlined user experience

Haut.AI’s Live Image Quality Assurance (LIQA) technology helps users capture well-lit selfies, improving the accuracy of the analysis.

“LIQA now guides users through the image capture process, helping adjust head positioning, lighting, and shadows, to ensure every selfie is high quality and suitable for accurate skin analysis. Because input quality directly determines output accuracy, LIQA has been a major contributor to the improved precision delivered in the refreshed Skin360,” says Georgievskaya.

The simplified input generates an analysis using only one selfie, which can be taken live or uploaded, reducing friction in the process.
