Hemp-seed oil: Koru Pharmaceuticals launches professional cosmetic line Mesohemp
07 Dec 2021 --- South Korean cosmetics giant Koru Pharmaceuticals has launched its latest sub brand, Mesohemp, in the US. The key ingredient in Mesohemp’s range – hemp oil containing cannabidiol (CBD) is derived from “green hemp,” a hybrid of Dutch and South Korean hemp strains.
Products in the Mesohemp line contain cannabis sativa oil or hemp oil. The ingredient is thought to have powerful anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. It is rich in fatty acids such as Omega 3, 6 and 9. Hemp oil is promoted by its supporters as a solution to common skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
Mesohemp, as per US regulations for CBD products, has a virtually non-existent level of THC(<0.03%) in its cosmetics. This means users will only benefit from the soothing, non-psychoactive properties of CBD.
Currently, the line consists of eight products, including toner, serum, sunblock, sheet masks and facial oil.
Taking advantage of the market
Koru Pharmaceuticals, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, is known for its anti-aging technology and skincare. All products are formulated in collaboration with researchers, dermatologists and aestheticians.
Mesohemp’s launch comes when CBD cosmetics and consumables have become very popular in developed countries. In the US, CBD has lost much of its former stigma among consumers. As of 2020, 71% of US consumers view it as an acceptable ingredient for consumption according to Innova Market Insights.
Just last year, bipartisan members of US Congress introduced The Hemp and Hemp derived CBD Consumer Protection and Market Stabilization Act of 2020. This heavily indicates a transition toward the overall legalization and cultural tolerance of CBD products within US markets.
The growth of CBD products has also been propelled by increasing recognition of its pharmaceutical utility. CBD has been highlighted as a tool in treating anxiety, chronic pain and to combat antibiotic resistance.
It is a rising “star” ingredient within the food and beverage industry, according to Innova Market Insights, for this reason. By 2024, CBD products are projected to gather an approximate US$20 billion from the US market alone.
