Kao debuts Re/cover: A “groundbreaking” steroid-free eczema relief system
20 Oct 2023 --- Kao USA has launched its brand, Re/cover, setting a “new standard” in eczema management. With a solid commitment to consumer well-being, the two-step eczema treatment system “challenges the norms” in addressing the common skin condition.
The Re/cover system offers a steroid-free, secure and “highly effective” solution to consumers suffering from eczema. The patented technology incorporated into the system provides relief and addresses the discomfort often associated with existing treatments available in the market, claims Kao USA.
“The launch of Re/cover is a milestone moment for Kao,” says Karen Frank, president of Consumer Care Business, Americas and EMEA at Kao.
“We are the first to bring this innovative system to the US market. It underscores our unwavering commitment to revolutionizing eczema care and maintaining our leadership in therapeutic skin solutions. With Re/cover, we’re not just changing the game, we’re setting a new standard for excellence in skin care.”
Serum under “second skin” patch
The first step of the Re/cover system is the Calming Eczema Serum, a lightweight formula enriched with soothing horse chestnut and allantoin. This duo works in harmony to alleviate sensitive skin resulting from eczema.
Moreover, this over-the-counter formula features colloidal oatmeal, celebrated for its skin-soothing properties, making it a candidate ingredient for eczema relief.
Following the serum, the system introduces the Moisture Patch, a product of Kao’s patented Fine Fiber technology. It enables the creation of a membrane, less than one micrometer in diameter, on the surface of the skin.
Acting as a breathable hydrating barrier, this ultra-thin patch covers the dry and itchy area while effectively sealing moisture. The feature is its ability to function as a second skin that gradually disappears over time, offering relief and comfort. The Fine Fiber technology enables the creation of an ultra-thin membrane, less than one micrometer in diameter.
In previous announcements, Kao revealed its goal of emerging as a top global player in skin protection. A development in this category saw Kao launching its natural citronella oil-formulated Bioré Guard Mos Block Serum mosquito repellent in Thailand.
Dermatologist tested for sensitive skin
Kao’s eczema system is to be used over a seven-day regimen with 14 patches — seven for daytime and seven for nighttime use.
Dermatologist tested, this treatment is designed for sensitive skin, free of parabens and dyes and notably steroid-free.
The patches adhere to the skin, eliminating the need for traditional adhesives, enhancing convenience and ease of use. Moreover, the transparent patches can be worn “comfortably” for up to eight hours, relieving eczema sufferers. The Re/cover system will be available in November.
In related launches, Cetaphil expanded its Pro AD Restoraderm skin microbiome-restoring line, targeting eczema relief.
