Symrise has launched Cellexora MD, a 100% plant derived cosmetic ingredient based on “true” exosomes, or intercellular messenger cells. The ingredient is said to support long-term skin resilience and longevity. The German chemicals company will present the ingredient at In-cosmetics Global 2026 in Paris, France (14-16 April).
The ingredient is launched under Symrise’s holistic care platform, Care & Wellness. The division launched last month and targets the “connected care model” linking skin health, gut microbiome, and holistic well-being.
Cellexora MD is sourced from upcycled organic apple side streams in Italy and boasts a sustainable and transparent procurement process.
Cellular-level longevity
The ingredient is said to meet high efficacy demands by encouraging deep skin regeneration and long-term vitality while maintaining traceable and clean production methods.
The “true” exosome ingredient differentiates itself from its lab-derived or exosome-adjacent counterparts through its delivery of “true” extracellular vesicles. These vesicles facilitate cell-to-cell communication, acting as a biological messenger between keratinocytes, fibroblasts, and macrophages.
According to Symrise, this communication “addresses the root causes of skin aging and supports multi-layer skin protection for long-term vitality.”
The scientifically backed ingredient is said to deliver high stability and reproducibility, aligning it with producing consistent and reliable outcomes.
Some benefits of the ingredient are listed as collagen production, skin soothing, and visibly reducing signs of aging. Collagen production encourages skin firmness, endurance, and malleability. Soothing pathways allow for skin balance and comfort. Meanwhile, reduced signs of aging were clinically defined and tested regarding wrinkle length, depth, and volume in a 30-day window.
The company says the white and odorless powder has “100% natural origin content produced according to ISO 16128-2.” The ingredient’s highly water-soluble structure enables superior formulation versatility and allows for easy integration into a wide range of skin care applications.
The ingredient is touted to support effective product development and consistent results due to its versatility, efficacy, and reliability.
“These plant-derived exosomes bring nature’s biological intelligence into premium skin care,” says Nathalie Chevrot, global skin care category director, Advanced Actives at Symrise.
“As consumers increasingly seek true, effective skin care beyond correcting visible signs of aging, this innovation helps our customers lead the shift toward healthspan-driven skin care and advanced skin regeneration,” says Chevrot.
