Symrise updates perfumers’ compendium to “artfully” boost ingredient traceability
23 Sep 2021 --- Symrise is updating its perfumers’ compendium to incorporate symbols that allow perfumers to easily pinpoint fragrance ingredients from renewable raw materials. These updates include product identification and images, as well as a register of renewable raw materials, among other things.
“The updated perfumers’ compendium now includes newly launched ingredients, shows the degree of renewability and marks high-impact products at first glance. We have also added a newly developed renewability register. As perfumery represents a form of art, we strived for a new design to reflect this aspect,” the Symrise Aroma Molecules team tells PersonalCareInsights.
Sorting perfume ingredients
The perfumers’ compendium is additional reference work for perfumers in artistic design.
The compendium is now assorted by fragrance groups and an alphabetical register, which make it easier for perfumers to search for fragrance ingredients.
In addition, the new edition is structuring information about each fragrance ingredient according to the periodic table of the elements.
“The updated compendium enables the creation of sustainable fragrances as perfumers can now find information on renewability and high impact which represent aspects of sustainability,” adds the the Symrise Aroma Molecules team.
Getting creative
In addition, the updated perfumers’ compendium “shares personal insights of our internal perfumers on the ingredients,” details the Symrise Aroma Molecules team.
It also features quotes from perfumers to loosen up the presentation of data and make it more accessible to perfumers.
“Our entire expertise and passion for fragrances has gone into our perfumers’ compendium,” says Antonia Lauter, global marketing manager of Aroma Molecules at Symrise.
“Perfumers may obtain detailed data about our fragrance ingredients and find inspiration. The informative and artistic overview of products encourages a variety of approaches to creative fragrance ideas.”
The perfumers’ compendium continues a long tradition of Symrise. Since 2003, the company has been publishing its reference works. Every three to four years, the fragrance specialists publish an updated catalog.
“We expect that more and more renewable and biodegradable ingredients will go into fragrance creations. Therefore we also added biodegradability in our online ingredient finder,” notes the Symrise Aroma Molecules team.
Sustainable ingredients NPD
Symrise has had a prolific year, as it previously launched an unadulterated version of ethylhexylglycerin, Hydrolex E, for use in NPD.
This month, Symrise’s cosmetic division acquired 25% of Kobo Products to expand its presence into UV filters.
In similar moves to boost ingredient transparency, US-based perfume brand Skylar disclosed all of the ingredients present in their perfume NPD at the beginning of this month.
The need for ingredient traceability within personal care products was also spotlighted by industry experts from Evolva and Personal Care Cargill Beauty.
