Univar Solutions and Boai Nky Pharmaceuticals introduce specialty polymers to Europe

15 Jun 2022 --- Univar is advancing its distribution partnership with China-based Boai Nky Pharmaceuticals to expand its Europe polymer products business, which includes dye transfer inhibitors for liquid and powder detergent formulations. The product range comprises Nokesho 55L30W, Nokesho 55 Powder and Nokesho 55 Granules.

“PVP polymers and PVP/VI polymers reduce the color transference among clothes during the washing allowing to mix different color clothes with the reduction of number of washes at home but there is also a contribution to longer life of clothes without color issues,” a spokesperson at Univar tells, PersonalCareInsights.

“Additionally, these polymers are not considered microplastics so its use can continue in the laundry detergents.

The partnership is also expected to enhance future innovations and technology within laundry detergents.

“This agreement will provide customers and formulators with another key component of modern laundry detergents. The future of the cleaning industry revolves around [environmentally] sustainable cleaning solutions. Using the right chemistry is key,” says Aaron Lee, global VP for home care and industrial cleaning at Univar Solutions.

“We are the first distribution partner to help provide this technology to laundry detergent manufacturers in Europe,” he continues.

Previously, Univar Solutions expanded to European homecare and industrial cleaning markets with its partnership with chemical company Angus in May. The agreement aimed to offer new cleaning ingredients for formulators.

Benefits for Europe
Boai Nky Pharmaceuticals is touted as the largest polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) Chinese producer and supplier.

“As a global supplier of this technology, we offer these specialty polymers to customers across Europe through the expanded agreement with Univar Solutions. With our global distribution network and technology research centers, we are ready to assist our customers with formulation development in the detergent space,” says Ella Qu, general manager at Boai Nky Pharmaceuticals.

“Nokesho 55 Powder is a free-flowing reference while Nokesho 55 Granules is in granular form with higher bulk density, but both references contain 95% active solids. Nokesho 55L30W is the liquid version with 30% solids for easy handling,” explains that spokesperson.

“This agreement will allow access to a first class source of DTI additives so customers can ensure the supply with our local service across different countries.”

The agreement will provide customers and formulators with key components to modern laundry detergents, says Lee.

“From pioneering polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) research, we’ve come a long way in product development, and this collaboration with Univar Solutions is continuing to drive innovation for the future,” adds Qu.

Univar Solutions was the first to be selected by Boai Nky Pharmaceuticals for the product range distribution across Europe.

The agreement includes Benelux, France, Switzerland, the UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Germany.

Where the tech is developed
Univar Solutions’ Solution Center in Essen, Germany, extends the formulation and performance testing capabilities for the polymer range. The Solution Center spans 700 square meters.

The company highlights that its chemistry and technology include environmentally sustainable cleaning solutions, compaction, powder to liquid transition and value-added cleaning products.

The dye inhibitors keep clothes in their original color without redeposits during the washing process.
