Uqora unveils Wash, a balancing vulva cleanser for vaginal health
09 Feb 2022 --- Urinary health brand Uqora is releasing a vulva cleanser called Wash, formulated with microbiome-friendly ingredients: water, coco glucosides, lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, microcrystalline cellulose and xanthan gum.
“Using an intimate wash is a very personal decision. Many women who favor an intimate wash for regular use are those who are facing common pH disruptors: sexual activity, menstruation, hormone changes or frequent antibiotic use,” says Dr. Alyssa Dweck, OB-GYN and medical advisor at Uqora.
“It’s essential to vet ingredients and pick something that does not have harsh chemicals that might disrupt the vaginal microbiome. Remember, vaginal health, vulva health and urinary health are all intertwined.”
The Wash cleanser is pegged as suitable for washing the vulva area without compromising vaginal health. As Wash includes lactic acid and hydrogen, it mimics the vagina’s natural cleansing function and can therefore cleanse the vulva without compromising vaginal or urinary health.
Uqora details that in a healthy vagina, lactobacilli bacteria (the healthy bacteria) release lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide to help keep the pH of the area low.
Expanding an “underserved” sector?
Supplement company Pharmavite previously acquired Uqora to expand the “underserved” women’s health sector.
The company is known for its proactive urinary tract health supplements and UTI relief products. Uqora states that unlike many-body and intimate washes currently on the market, Wash is a clean formula, free of the essential oils, fragrances, and pH disruptors that are frequently used.
Wash may not be necessary for everyone, but it was developed to deliver a safe, and effective, option for anyone interested in using a vulva wash in their urinary care regimen,” adds Uqora.
The company advises that if consumers “haven’t used a [vulva] wash before, and haven’t felt like they needed one, then skip it [Wash]! If you are looking for a reliable and safe wash option, Uqora’s Wash is here.”
Uqora has also launched a resource for vaginal health education for communities.
Through the Uqora Collective, a private community forum of nearly 15,000 members, Uqora learned its community sought a safe wash and developed Wash in response to this feedback.
