Weekly Roundup: Brenntag powers through inflation, ELC fights climate change with solar panels

Business moves
Brenntag unveiled its results for Q1 2022, with profit rising by 30.8% and Earnings Per Share increasing by 155%. The results support the company’s transition to a new operating model amid an increasingly challenging market as a result of fallout from Russia’s war on Ukraine. Brenntag Essentials and, in particular, Brenntag Specialties, showed very strong growth. EBITDA showed a year-on-year increase of 48%, with operating EBITDA increasing by 76.8%. The quarter was marked by high energy prices, supply shortages and inflation, especially for transport.
Simpaar is hosting an international exhibition of raw perfumery materials – this June at the Espace Champerret in Paris. The event will bring together professionals in the perfumery industry, natural and synthetic suppliers and distributors, packaging suppliers, schools and associations.
Packaging developments
Packaging manufacturer Quadpack has unveiled its environmentally sustainable cosmetics packaging solution, the Charismo Dropper for controlled application. The square-shaped bottle is suited to low-viscosity skincare products such as serums, oils, essence and water-like formulas. The bottle is available in 10 and 30 ml sizes. Quadpack’s Charismo Droppers come as part of the QLine Charismo range, including fragrance bottles of different sizes, providing beauty brands eco-friendly options to expand their product range.
Baralan is introducing its Penelope Series line of “uniquely-shaped” glass bottles for brands and end-users. The bottles are suited to makeup and skincare solutions, featuring a smooth barrel that is rounded at the shoulders, and transitions to a square base. The design is available in two sizes: 10 ml filling with 12 ml overflow capacity, and 15 ml filling with a 17 ml overflow capacity.
In more recyclable packaging news, the Colgate-Palmolive partnership with Walmart and ensuing campaign highlights the company’s new recyclable toothpaste tubes, made from HDPE. The packaging is Colgate-Palmolive’s first product to be recognized by external recycling authorities, and can be recycled along with plastic bottles. The company is releasing its line of Bright Smiles, Bright Futures mobile dental vans to select US-based Walmart retail outlets.

Greentech Biotechnologies has unveiled its Myralis organic active ingredient, a “highly purified” gentiopicroside sourced from wild yellow gentian roots, locally harvested in France. The ingredient targets the upper and lower eye contours, combating oxidative stress, inflammation, angiogenesis, glucation, lymphatic function and dermal matrix aging. Greentech Biotechnologies says the ingredient lifts upper eyelids, reduces dark circles and bags.
US-based Sunshine Botanicals is launching its vitamin C topical product to combat aging, wrinkles and oncology-related skin damage. Vitamin C + Brightening Moisture Fluid taps into botanical ingredients to rejuvenate and soothe skin, without the irritation associated with other vitamin C-heavy products, according to the brand.
Professional golfer Justin Thomas is introducing the WearSPF suncare line following his skin cancer scare. The launch comes during Skin Cancer and Melanoma Awareness Month. The products are intended for all ages, and include a Sunscreen Spray, aMineral Sunscreen, a Sunscreen Sport Stick, a Sunscreen Lip Balm, an After Sun Cleanser and an Essential Sunscreen.
Actress Kim Cattrall has been named the latest face of OleHenrikson’s latest Touch collection. The collection includes two body care products. The BeamCream Smoothing Body Moisturizer promises all-day hydration, while the Firmly Yours Dry Body Oil improves elasticity and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) is expanding its global renewable energy portfolio with the launch of an on-site solar installation for its Ontario, Canada-based fill and assembly manufacturing facility, named Hillmount. The rooftop solar panels will make Hillmount ELC’s first Canadian plant to use on-site solar power, bringing the company’s solar capacity to 5.7 MW worldwide.
The Body Shop and the United Nations Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth are introducing a global campaign to increase youth engagement in public life. The campaign “Be Seen. Be Heard” aims to change young people’s presence in public life across more than 75 countries. The campaign follows a report showing 76% of US youth believe that current political systems need drastic reforms to be future-proof, while 78% think politicians and business leaders from prior generations have made things worse for people and the planet.
