In-cosmetics 2026: Seprify highlights cellulose tech for sustainable SPF

22 Apr 2026 | Seprify

Amy Theofanous, business development manager at Seprify, told us about Seprify’s cellulose technology platform as a scalable alternative to conventional cosmetic ingredients. The company showcased SilvaLuma — its cellulose-derived functional ingredient designed to enhance SPF performance while delivering mattifying effects in skin and sun care. Positioned as a replacement for fossil-based polymers and mineral filters, the solution aims to combine high performance with a reduced environmental footprint.

This is Ella Jaden Knoll for Personal care insights at In Cosmetics Global 2026, joined by Amy Theofanis, business development manager at Serey.

Hello Amy, nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you too.

All right, so jumping straight into it, you're showcasing silver luma, a cellulose derived bio-based ingredient.

How does it help formulators boost performance while?

UV filter load in suncare and skincare products.

So our product is made from cellulose particles.

We have a patented process that creates highly optimized particles for light scattering.

This enables very high boosting effect.

So we have many test results here.

We've seen up to 100% boosting in mineral formulation.

And this has been verified by our customers as.

So this really enables our customers to either reduce the loading of UV filters that they have and maintain their SPF value, or they can also increase their SPF value, without impacting negatively the sensory feel of the product.

And actually our product is also helping to to improve the sensory feel of their final formulation as.

OK, thank you.

And sustainability is a major trend and a very large priority for a lot of formulators.

Can you explain how your cellulose platform's circular production process and biodegradable profile addresses brand goals for eco-friendly microplastic-free formulations?

Yes, so our process and the way we produce our ingredients is really helping us to have meaningful change and hit a lot of these brand goals in a meaningful way.

So our ingredient is 100% natural, certified, readily.

Biodegradable comes from renewable resources, so it comes from FFC certified wood sources, wood pulp, and it's enabling our customers to replace certain ingredients in their formulations, so replacing microplastics, replacing ingredients with a high carbon footprint, and also then also helping to reduce the loading of those harmful UV filters and other ingredients that consumers are becoming less, less likely to use, less wanting to have in their products.

And given your recent rollout with Grohman Group across the European cosmetics market, how are you supporting technical co-development and scale up for early adopters of Silver Lua?

We have a very close partnership.

We work very together and we are available at every step of the way for our customers and Grolman's customers.

So anything from technical guidance support we can provide.

We have a Experience within our team at, so we have tens of years of experience working in cellulose.

We also have very experienced cosmetic formulators and other industry experts from cosmetics as , so we are able to provide the guidance and beyond boosting and matte sensory effects, what other functional roles can sacrifice cellulose particles play in personal care formulations particles.

Are doing a lot more than just the boosting.

So as I mentioned briefly before, one of the other additional benefits is the sensory feel, so reducing stickiness and greasiness.

There's no white cast.

Our material has a very nice feel on the skin.

It's very soft, so it's adding that lightweight, soft touch to formulation, as as also providing a mattifying effect and a soft focus effect as.

For my final question, your recent Series A funding and plans to scale production, what assurances can you offer customers about consistent supply quality, regulatory readiness, and global rollout of your cellulose-based ingredients?

So we've just finalized our first ton scale production run, and this has enabled us to demonstrate the scalability, reliability, and reproducibility of our process.

We also have a kind of completed regulatory dossier available for customers and we have kind of global regulatory compliance so customers can use this anywhere in the world and we are validating this and testing this with customers.

We have a global customer base, so really the rollout is is global and we, we hope to continue that in the years to come.

All right, perfect.

Thank you, Amy, very much for joining us at Personal Clearance.
