SCCS co-chair on animal testing: “Dialogue and democracy means you must have opposing views”

Prof. Vera Rogiers, emeritus at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and co-chair of scientific committee on consumer safety, Europe, shares her expert opinion on cosmetics safety and alternatives to animal testing. She highlights the importance of differentiating between hazard- and risk-based assessments of chemicals, stressing that the best science should be used along with new methodologies to animal testing when available. She reflects on how the transition towards alternatives can be accelerated when research is vast, and highlights the need to be critical when in dialogue.
