In-cosmetics Global 2026: Symrise presents upcycled exosome longevity ingredient

28 Apr 2026 | Symrise

Symrise’s global product manger, Héloïse Bouchez, unpacked the company’s latest innovation in longevity skin care, highlighting Cellexora MD, a plant-based “true” exosome ingredient upcycled from organic apple side streams. She talked about how extracellular vesicles enable advanced cell communication and multi-layer protection, while addressing consistency, sustainability, and clinically proven benefits to help formulators differentiate premium, eco-conscious products.

This is Sabina Waldeck for Personal care insights at In Cosmetics Global 2026, joined by Eloise Boucher, global product manager at Simres.

Welcome.

So exosomes are an emerging ingredient in personal care solutions, and you're showcasing Celexora MD.

How does this plant-based true exosome ingredient support longevity-focused skincare beyond traditional anti-aging actives?

So you know, the longevity is not only about acting on the visible sign of aging, it's also acting on the root cause of aging.

So with Celexaa MD we do, we act on both, so we act on the root cause of aging through, you know, the, the real develop.

By Lopez and Otil, so we act on 7 hallmarks and acting on the, on the 3 families.

So that's why we say we have a 360 approach.

And on top of this we also have clinical study on the actual wrinkles on the face.

And how does Symrise ensure consistency and stability with Celexora MD's exosome-based technology, especially compared to other exosome-inspired or synthetic alternatives on the market?

So Celexor MD is precisely characterized.

So first we have a Characterizations.

So the purpose was first to check the quantity of vesicles and the particle size distributions.

We also checked on the microscope how it looks like and it really has this specific round shaped form of exosome.

On top of this, we have a biochemical characterizations, so the purpose was really to have a look on the lipids we have, the proteins, and the microRNAs to really have a fingerprint on the, on the ingredients.

And Selexa MD is upcycled from organic apple side streams.

How does this sustainability story align with current consumer demands for traceability and eco-focused beauty solutions?

So our ingredients really follow our sustainability commitments.

So yes, so the apples come from Apple.

So it was actually ugly apples that couldn't be sold into the supermarket.

So we take this side stream to obtain these vesicles.

It's also an ingredient that is 100% natural origin content, and we are currently working on the cos certifications because it's really a guarantee for the cosmetic fields.

And in what ways does delivering true extracellular vesicles enable deeper cell to cell communication and multi-layer skin protection, and why is this important for premium skincare formulations?

So we do have real data to show that The exosomes are helping the cell to cell communication, so we have data on the microscope to see what is inside the fibroblasts, microphages, but we also have some data showing that the cells communicate between each other.

And then lastly, clinical data shows improvements in firmness, elasticity, and signs of aging, as you say, but how do you see formulators leveraging these measurable outcomes to differentiate products in the longevity skincare segment?

So what is great with Celexa is that it's really easy to use.

So it's a white odorless.

Really easy to use in the traditional aging products.

I have actually just a to show to you that even in a transparent products like you do not see any at all this water soluble ingredients, so it's very easy to use.

Perfect, and thank you for joining Personal Care Insights.

Thank you.
