AI beauty soars: Lululab wins health and mobile app awards at Consumer Electronics Show
15 Nov 2021 --- South Korea-based Lululab, a start-up and provider of customized beauty solutions using artificial intelligence (AI), has been named an honoree for the fourth consecutive year at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in New York, US.
The company was recognized for its Lumini series of beauty and dermatological analysis tools based on AI technologies. Lululab also took home the Innovation Award in two categories: Health and Wellness and Software and Mobile Apps.
This award emphasizes the growth of technological solutions featured in the beauty industry. Lululab’s Lumini App analyses skin age by examining wrinkles, pigmentation, redness, pores, sebum and other skin issues.
“As a start-up, we are honored to have been recognized so many times by the CES Innovation Awards for our AI-based dermatological analysis and beauty treatments,” says Yongjoon Choe, CEO, Lululab.
“CES 2022 was especially significant in that our products were recognized for their ability to address many parts of the body. Moving forward, Lululab will focus on providing customers with hyper-individualized, data-based services.”
The Consumer Technology Association, which hosts the CES event, evaluates products featured at the CES based on their innovativeness in a wide range of categories, including design, functionality and user value.
Hair health predictions
The Lumini Scalp, a winner of the Innovation Award in the Health and Wellness category, is an AI-based hair care solution that analyzes the condition of the user’s scalp, organized by five key categories, including balding pattern.
Based on the program’s diagnostic results and prediction of future balding patterns, Lumini Scalp provides the user with a customized scalp treatment plan and records prior scalp treatments.
The app is regarded in the industry as a “next-generation scalp health consultant” capable of consistently managing hair health and preventing baldness.
PersonalCareInsights previously reported the importance of scalp health, and in a video interview, the Replenology hair system from Arbor Life Labs was emphasized to promote hair growth and follicle regeneration.
Analyzing skin
The Lumini App, a winner of the Innovation Award in the Software and Mobile Apps category, is a total care service based on deep learning and AI technologies that use a smartphone and an independent camera to conduct in-depth analyses of the user’s skin, based on skin type and other categories.
When using the Lumini App, the skin is classified into one of sixteen different types and diagnoses eight different skin issues, made possible through deep-learning technology.
The app then uses the results of these analyses to recommend skincare products and skincare strategies tailored to the user. A user’s skin symptoms can be diagnosed anywhere with the option of online consultations, monitoring and offline visits.
Previously, industry players such as Perfect Corp., Coty and Avon México tapped into AI solutions for beauty and product personalization.
