In-cosmetics Global 2023: Beauty suppliers spotlight bioscience advancements, green chemistry and other eco-solutions
06 Mar 2023 --- Personal care ingredients industry event in-cosmetics Global will be returning this year in Barcelona, Spain, from March 28-30, with environmental sustainability in beauty innovation notably at the forefront of discussions.
Over 700 ingredient suppliers are anticipated to showcase the latest innovations, including global cosmetics suppliers like DSM, International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF), Solvay, Clariant, Evonik and BASF.
“More than ever, we’re seeing sustainability dominate conversations, with suppliers, manufacturers and brands all dedicating time and budget to understand how they can minimize their impact on the planet,” says Roziani Zulkifli, event director at in-cosmetics Global.
“As the conversation continues to expand, we’re delighted to announce the launch of our new Sustainability Zone at this year’s event. It will further expand the opportunities for attendees to discover solutions to every challenge facing their business.”
This year, in-cosmetics Global will help attendees from across the beauty sector understand what it means to be “truly sustainable.” The new Sustainability Zone will showcase solutions for every step of the supply chain from product planning, formulation and ingredient sourcing to packaging, manufacturing and transportation.

DSM will showcase its environmental sustainability solutions at its booth and will also be available at the in-Cosmetics’ Sensory Bar with its multifunctional eco-solutions.
At the Sustainability Zone, DSM’s Meriem Saber, sustainability manager and Dr. Mathias Gempeler, head of science and promotion skin care, will deliver a talk on “Leveraging bioscience and green chemistry to grow sustainable solutions.”
DSM will also present its In-fact line of ingredients, which provides a “conscious” choice in skincare, sunscreen, makeup and hair care products.
Among other highlights, is the company’s Pepha-Tight CB biotech ingredient that is naturally derived to address market trends. It is a transparent concentrated mixture of microalgae, pullulan and pentylene glycol. DSM shares that 70% of consumers reported improved skin appearance and firmness after using the ingredient.
Meanwhile, the company will be presenting Syn-up, an intelligent peptide that “seamlessly” connects to Plasmin, rebalancing and strengthening the skin’s layers from the inside out. It reduces skin sensitivity and redness and promotes healthy-looking skin.
DSM is also spotlighting its Parsol DHHB ingredient, which is a “highly effective” and photostable UVA filter with an eco-profile.
Biotechnology for hair care
IFF is gearing up to present its newest line of functional ingredients – Aurist – at Stand U30 at the trade show.Aurist AGC is a novel, biodegradable, cationic biopolymer for improved hair conditioning.

“Consumers no longer have to trade-off between sustainability and performance.”
Aurist AGC is part of IFF’s functional line, which comprises natural and nature-inspired ingredients. Earlier this year, IFF also launched its Aurist GHI rheology modifier extracted from the guar bean.
Shortlisted for awards
The event organizers recently announced a shortlist of nominations for the categories Innovation Zone Best Functional and Active Ingredient, Green Ingredient and Rising Star awards.
“In this year’s Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award, bio-fermentation and plant extracts were key players in the active category, with a notable trend towards rheology modifiers in the functionals category,” the organizers share.
For the Green Ingredient Award, a total of ten ingredients will be up for the accolade, all of whom have launched within the last two years and have current applications in cosmetic products.
The Rising Star Award category has a shortlist of first- or second-year exhibitors for their range of offerings, innovation and commodity, as well as how solutions-oriented their product range is.
