Lavior launches diabetic wound care at Walmart to expand treatment for at-risk communities
15 Dec 2023 --- Lavior says its Diabetic Hydrogel Wound Dressing and Diabetic First Aid Gel plant-based creams are now available at Walmart across the US.
The pharmaceutical company provides over-the-counter diabetic wound and skin treatments. It is the “only company exclusively dedicated to the therapeutic diabetes skin care market.”
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) endorsed the Diabetic Wound Gel with its Better Choices for Life mark for its efficacy, evidence-based research and ability to manage complications of diabetes in the initial stages.
According to the ADA, 1.4 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year. Early management is essential for preventing wound progression and serious complications.
Lavior says, “healthcare disproportionately affects BIPOC communities” and that its partnership with Walmart provides a broader demographic with access to rapid healing.
“Together with the ADA and Walmart, we will continue to shed light on the importance of early detection and care for all communities. Diabetes affects all ages, which is why we must continue to educate ourselves on the risks and treatments readily available to improve quality of life,” says the founder of Lavior Gilad Savion.
A study from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, reports that diabetic foot complications are the most common occurring problems throughout the globe, “resulting in devastating economic crises for the patients, families and society.”
In another study titled “Quantifying the Costs and Profitability of Care for Diabetic Foot Ulcers Treated in a Multidisciplinary Setting,” 319 wound episodes in 248 patients were evaluated. The overall mean cost of care per wound episode was US$24,226 plus or minus US$2,176, including US$41,420 plus or minus US$3,318 for inpatient admissions and US$11,265 plus or minus US$1,038 for outpatient procedures.
“While we have seen in general an overall improvement in complication rates for all people with diabetes, the disparities between Black and Hispanic compared to non-Hispanic White people with diabetes seem to persist,” highlights a study from Emory University, US.
Additionally, a nutritious diet is crucial in maintaining blood glucose control and preventing diabetes complications.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, over 13.5 million people in the US live in food deserts, with a disproportionate amount being located in predominantly Black and Brown neighborhoods. A food desert is an area with limited access to healthy and affordable food. They commonly have fewer supermarkets and more convenience stores and fast-food restaurants.
Lavior can be found in 3,000 Walmart stores nationwide and on its website for less than US$20 for a 30-day supply.
Scientifically-backed cream
Lavior’s R&D team studied the healing effects of the Inula AGS-RIED — an Inula plant species — used in the creams.
“As experts in rapid-healing diabetic wound care, we offer a practical solution for at-home diabetic care. We invested time and extensive research, backed by 13 years of studies in natural treatment for skin disorders, to develop creams to help the millions of people affected by this all-too-common disease,” says Savion.
Lavior’s formulations and medical understanding of chronic skin disorders have resulted in “breakthrough” findings for diabetic skin conditions. The company asserts that its creams are essential for any first aid kit.
The all-in-one Lavior creams feature an advanced formula that provides moist wound healing through its ability to address multiple wound concerns simultaneously. Its therapeutic properties protect wounds while soothing and hydrating dry, cracked and damaged skin and healing diabetic wounds and foot ulcers.
